Latest England squad

Personally I reckon it's a load of rubbish about Gerrard and Lampard not being able to play together - the problem is more to do with the system they get asked to play. Often one of them has played out wide (Lampard left or Gerrard right) in the past. I'd be interested to see our record when both have started at centremid.

With Barry holding the fort I really don't see why they couldn't flourish playing off Crouch. This would also give us a solid base to protect us against a dangerous Croat side.

As for Beckham, he still has great delivery even if his overall game isn't quite at the level it was 5 years ago.

Agree with all that excepet i'd rather Hargreaves played ahead of Barry, he's far better defensively.

Lampard has thrived off Drogba's knock downs and lay-offs just as Gerrard has with Crouch's. Those 2 bombing on with complete freedon coupled with Beckham's service from outwide (if he stays out there which is my only concern) should be great to watch.

Regarding Crouch in general he seems to do far better for Liverpool playing in Europe and with the national side than he has done in the league for the last 18 months or so, maybe European defenders aren't used to somebody like him and struggle to handle him?

same ere tbh, excpt -barry +hargreaves

Lampard can camp where he usually does waiting for the return balls or to make a run onto the ball and have a thump, whereas gerrard could just roam about and lunge in at everyone and occasionally do his little charge with the 1-2 through a defense, i can imagine that being pretty intense, 5man midfield laying on the pressure and then you'v got gerrard trying to smash through, if it doesnt fall to him chances are lampard would be waiting for it anyway.
its what he usually does. With crouch upfront itd just be a licence for both of them to just keep doing the darting runs or smashes from range. Would love to see it, its just its so attractive in theory.. and we're england.. so it would probably wind up falling apart or being BORING

I'd be interested to see if you can find any sort of back-up to suggest that Drogba ever gives knock downs and/or lay offs to any of his teammates regularly as as far as I've seen he only ever brings anyone else in to the game as a last resort and to be honest he never plays with his back to goal either which you'd need to do to supply knock downs at least:)
On the whole Lamps prospers from moves he's either been involved in via the MF or from set pieces, Drogba isn't a team player is what I'm saying whereas Lardarse is:)

should be a good game to watch.

be very disappointed if it stays 0-0 tho :D

Beckham should play, he can't run for **** but he can hit a ball perfect and with crouch on the pitch its what england need ! Beckham can pick crouch's head out from anywhere on the pitch and he'll also take the corners which means lamps and gerrard can camp outside the box to volley it in should crouch miss :)

someone needs to mail this thread mclaren :D

You're missing Lampard and Gerrard out of that theory of yours as they both fit the bill and remember that the 2 can't play together according to most so apparently you haven't got to play people who consistently score or create goals:)

I find your post a little confusing.
Regardless, both players have been terrible for England for a while now. Lampard used to score consistently for England, doesn't any more.
Neither come close to the assists Beckham get

Ok, if it's a bit confusing, out of Owen, Becks, Lamps and Gerrard who have consistently scored or created goals for England in the last 3 years for example?:)

I definitely wouldn't be bringing in Hargreaves, he's had an injury and Barry looked fine to me in the games he played. Tracked back very well. Also having a natural left footer could come in useful on occasion.

The only thing Hargreaves has going for him over Barry is workrate. Plus with a 5-man midfield in theory he should have some help. Gerrard likes a tackle and Lampard is far better at breaking up the play than people give him credit for.

I know we all love Crouchy but his England goals have come against below par sides like Estonia, macedonia,Jamaica etc he hasnt scored one goal against decent opposition (well apart from greece).

He's not played vs any decent sides though, whoever he's played agaist he's scored (in general) and that can't be said about any of our other strikers.

sick to the teeth of this crouchy only scored against the *** teams. First of all he has not being given the chance against the better teams. Also in the last world cup against portugal he was amazing when he came on, considering he was up front alone. People say you judge strikers on their scoring rate, why change the yard stick when it comes to crouch?

ps scoring rate at international level
