Latest GT5 info

personally i cant wait for this game...and private rooms so you dont need to play with idiots who like to play bumper cars sounds great.

im massive fan of this game and desperately need a new game... especially with the massive let down rtcw 2 was i dont have anything to really play. i still got my dfgt the one with the turning nob made for gran turismo lol...should be fun but il probably have to buy another wheel to support forza....bit silly having to buy 2 different wheels though.

Same problem, I bought a G25 last year and will never, ever play a racing game again without a wheel, its night and day better (and I loved my racing games in the past, using the controller). G25 has taken a bit of a battering, needs a replacement, epicly disappointed the G27 doesnt have 360 support because now am in the odd situation where am actually weighing up two wheels (as am after Forza 3 aswell)........

That or the Fanatec Porsche Turbo S wheel, I believe that does 360/ps3/pc.

Aint cheap, especially with the club sport pedals.

Anyone else manage to pre-order this from Amazon for £17.50 (misprice) by the way? Think they've cancelled my order :p

Tim why should it be a problem if you prefer one or the other, why should you not have a given right to have a preference. I think its always good to mix those over eager with doubters to get a balanced view.
Like you im wondering how the heck i will have time for all the games coming not to mention getting the money for the lot of them.

Exactamondo :)

I may "prefer" Forza nowadays, but that doesn't mean i'm not as excited as Spie in a ferrari dealership at the thought of GT5! :D

They cancelled mine and a friend of mine's orders, I think they have bee, how you say...terminated :(

As said, in single player you can just not do that but if you race online and half the grid is wall grinding and the other half is driving like they are playing Burnout the fun isn't there.

If I was developing this game I would consider making it so that if you touch a wall it's game over or at least a spin losing you 10+seconds

I totally understand where you are coming from but then dont you want realistic physics (where yours would be altering it for altering sake)

Im all for complete realism, and seeing as F1 drivers bounce over some curbs as its faster than actually going around the corner properly, then thats what the racing line is (I know wall banging is an extention to this but even so, in one sense this IS the racing line, now if there where grass strips against the wall to slow the cars down as well, or sand pits etc....... I would be all for it, realistic physics and reason NOT to wall bang)

Not sure if it's covered here but read on IGN.com the following about damage.

IGN.com

The next detail Kazunori touched on was regarding damage models. I can confirm that not every car in Gran Turismo 5 will sport damage models -- it will only be select sets. However, Kazunori has yet to decide on a finalized list of featured car types for damage support.

Very disappointing only some cars will get damage, it should be an all or nothing feature really, I mean what would happen if you race a car that is capable of taking damage against one that doesn't? Hardly going to be fair.

Regards damage, for me its more of a visual addition than a true gameplay mechanic or indeed as an enchancement.

Take GRID, or even a game like Burnout Paradise it had impressive looking damage, cracked windows the lot but it wasnt anywhere close to realistic. Then again if a game had anything close to realistic damage particulary the way people will play online then each car would be out of the race by the first lap.

Some questions to get your opinions:

Whats the best console game to implement damage thus far by:
  • The most graphical damage?
  • The most realistic actual handling effected damage?
  • The most bits coming off a car?

I cant quite say any game on a console i know of has combined accurate level of damage while also being highly graphical.

GT5 is likely to be no different in that respect but should have it seems a high graphical level of damage and doors etc coming off with aninmated driver and damage to the interiors etc is nice touch.

From 170 cars with damage their should be plenty their to choose from if a player wants to race with damage but to expect 1000 cars to all have damage and animations for the driver/cockpit i think is asking a bit much.

I think the holy grail of damage would be the single Rally car scene in the E3 trailer.. Since it's in the trailer, I am assuming that single car rally stages where the graphics resource can be used, this is what we'll get..

For the normal racing, I think flapping doors/bonnet is a bit unrealistic (Rally cars have pins in place for this type of thing), and more deformation type damage with headlamps/windscreens smashing would be a better compromise, it looks quite arcadey in places, although the video where they went to town smashing it up looks quite good!, but that's a quite extreme case!.

Still, unless we get some better info, it does look a little like Kaz has bitten off more then he can chew.. just basic damage would suffice, and spend the time/effort on the AI/Physics and all the things that will make it undeniably the best game in it's genre..

Damage worked great in DiRT, if you messed up the frontend of you car it would have trouble steering and would steer to one side automatically.

With that you have the choice of going slower but not crash or go faster but risk a crash.

From what i gather the 170 cars with damage (inside and out) will be race cars, WRC, Nascar etc, but as with most information very little has been confirmed.

On the plus side it seems like it will be out Q4 this year.

Awesome, the most entertaining sport is in GT... NASCAR. Nothing like groing round and round and round for hours on end.

I so know I'm going to spend hours doing the NASCAR. :(

I liked the Fifth Gear episode where Tiff Went to NASCAR, and he said it was quite difficult to drive?

I'm sure if Kaz is on the ball as people seem to think, it should be quite well done?

Does anyone know if there has been any comments on the menu system? The menus in Prologue take absolutely ages to navigate and load, I really hope they have improved it.

Date
The date being this year doesnt surprise me.
Kaz also stated to a jurno it would come shortly after Oct 1st (Release of GT PSP)
For me its likely to be November, I feel they will want to further push the title after TGS at the Tokyo Motorshow around 20th October. As for car on the cover Im hedging my guess with the new Ferrari F450.
Amar stated in his cryptic message a date that related to Dec the 1st, so its possible GTPSP Oct 1st and GT5 Dec 1st.
Its also going to be a world wide release window rather than UK or USA getting it 3-4 months later if hes right.

Damage
Regards damage I would agree Codemasters is currently doing it better than anyone in a complete sense. No doubt P Digital & Turn 10 will have taken a close look at Dirt/Grid offered. Its obvious they do as it seems Turn10 possibly pinched the "rewind feature" Codemasters came up with. Its also a reason i couldnt understand the seemed hysteria that FM3 will have rolls etc, Codies have been doing it and the "rewind" for quite a while.

Car Numbers
GT5 will have less cars with damage, though possibly more "race cars" than other games, depends how you look at it. I very much doubt that FM3 for instance will have 170 race cars and SHIFT or Supercar Challenge certainly wont. On that basis i dont think people can be too dissapointed then with 170 even if all cars wont have it. The damage to these "Premium" cars as theve been called due to their additional modelling to me states with the attention to detail the cars in the game has will be amongst the best looking if comparing to anything else out their so this might help ease the pain for those that find it dissapointing all the cars in the game cant have it.

Dont though for one moment rite off SHIFT, its going to be right up their i reckon in the damage department.

Hearing all this new info made me go get my PS2 out. I'm trying to play GT4 with my G25 but for some reason i can't get it working, i'm sure it should work, does anyone have any ideas how to get it going?

So still no Offical release date then just a quarter.

And to be honest, that's not official, just a brochure that was pulled..

I think we all know that whatever is mentioned/seen, it's all unofficial, even if Kaz gave a date, I'd still take it with a pinch of salt until Sony confirm a shipping date etc..

They say that this cloak and dagger stuff is to not overshadow the PSP game, but I have my own thoughts on it, which I'll wait and see if it bears fruit or not (I hope not!)..
