Laurence Fox

I see that Laurence Fox, leader and sole member of the Reclaim party who is allegedly funded exclusively by the former Tory donor Jeremy Hosking has thrown his hat into the ring to become Mayor of London

Fox told the Torygraph that: “With almost all older and vulnerable people having got their jab, I want the lockdown lifted straight away. The government has said vaccines are working, hospitalisations and deaths are tumbling, but we are still being told we won’t be able to resume normal life until mid-summer at the earliest".

Saying things out of turn and then doubling down on them because and I quote "I say quite of lot of unfortunate things" and "I'm not a historian", "but I think it's important to be able to express one's opinion" on things that he admits he knows **** all about are the signs that the man is the epitome of gob*****.

Also

He's a ****. Only a mother could love that.

Yeah that is a crap example to take issue with. He has definitely gone off the rails but that was a point where I thought he was making quite reasonable arguments (that may be flawed from some perspectives) to be honest.

Pretty much highlights his point about rage against opinions you don't agree with. :)

I hate this current fashion for wanting to send people into oblivion when they have a controversial opinion. Jesus, even I was at school, our English teacher encouraged us to debate controversial subjects. What the hell happened...?

As I said, in terms of his defending the right to have an completely uneducated opinion and be able to express it as though it's valid whilst complaining about how people think he's an ****hole for doing so, it's a grade A example.

The man is a tool. He's showcasing a lot of what's wrong with modern society in a succinct nutshell.

Uneducated, in your opinion :)

Yeah he's bit of a tool but you're picking at a poor example tbh. Most people don't care if someone has a silly opinion. Unfortunately these days there's a vocal minority that want to remove your ability to earn an income because of it. Grim.

No, in HIS opinion. HIS OWN OPINION. He says, he knows nothing about what he's talking about. Anyway. I meant to post the song first. What a ****ing ****hole.

If he want's to earn an income from being one, fair game, but at least let's be honest about what he is.

Hah, like I said, when I was at school we were encouraged to discuss highly contentious issues based upon our own observations and opinions/ignorance.

It was fun and stupid sometimes but Jesus, it would be open warfare on twitter these days.

I'm amazed that people get so upset over silly words but welcome to the modern world.

PS: I did discuss this at the time with sikh mates who generally despise being dragged into political discussion and no damns were given.

Discussing things at school (or a on a computer forum for that matter!) as a method of mutual self enlightenment and seeking compromise is a world away from using the media to try to form a backlash against "PC gone mad" though innit?

Indeed however everyone is entitled to their opinion. If people listen, so be it. It is after all, optional for them to listen.

Oh yeah. Have an opinion. Everyone has one.

What grinds my gears is everyone thinking theirs is worth anything more than **** all if it's based on **** all like this fella.

Are you referring to his comment on GMB where he states he isn't well informed with events from WWI? It seems to me you've taken that specific comment, applied it to "he knows nothing about what he's talking about" as a blanket statement and followed it up with a number of insults which somewhat backs up Laurence's opinion on rage against opinions you don't agree with.

Without invoking Godwin's law, perhaps a lot of what of what "out spoken" people say is probably best left unsaid.

Yes, some good ol' British stiff upper lip.

I can't say I follow this guy but from the video you linked some of his comments are perfectly fine. Some, I don't agree with but then that isn't surprising either.

He's talking about a WWI film, complaining about it, saying he'd be happier if it was different because that would be more real for him, whilst saying he doesn't know about WWI. It's not blanket. It's specific.

Not only that, he's doubling down on it, trying to wriggle out of having being called out for saying the same thing in an earlier interview, by saying he knows **** all about WWI.
