LED Bulb Thread

Aliexpress is my go to right now. You should find them for around £15.
warranty is a bit harder to exploit on aliexpress though , so a few/400 pennies more w/ Amazon fulfilled;
For regular led bulbs, bought some that failed ~6mths, I wonder if aliexpress ones could be seconds from factory product binning.

they do look a good deal ... protected purchase via paypal/card.
I assume many people don't like 4k (I do)
spec says
Only to apply in dry or damp locations and most of open fixtures with lamp-holders that offer sufficient space (10 mm free air space)
so not sure they would be good for ip65 ... maybe they all say that.

I usually google the part # on the manufacturer site to check the spec.
Amazon sometimes seem to shift old model/less-efficient bulbs .. but maybe those are more reliable

The average British home has about 10 halogen lamps and uses each lightbulb for around three hours a day, according to government figures from 2012.

The emissions cost is staggering. Buildings account for about 40% of our energy consumption – and lighting currently accounts for around 15% of that. That gives it a carbon footprint higher than aviation and shipping combined.

Eliot Whittington, the director of the Prince of Wales’s corporate leaders group, which campaigns on the issue, said: “The science is clear. We can’t allow the human costs of climate change to reach the levels they will, if we fail to act. You ban things that threaten public safety and the wasteful use of energy is dangerous for us all in the end.”

but leds cost £5 back then ? what is the update ?

edit - well maybe not first ever post in thread

nonethless 2012 was 6 years ago.

Even with relatively cheaper LED bulbs today, I guess the figure of 10, or close to it, still stays.
Many people are irresponsible and uneducated on the matter :(

How do i explain this, i got some LED candle light bulbs with bent tips, thought they would look good, however they seem to (it's hard to explain) feel they are running like < 60fps or like 20Hz or something  when you wave your hand around it seems like there is trail motion to it :S

it's hard to explain, I tried googling but cannot find what it is

at least 3 different people see the same issue ...and no we've not been smoking anything questionable before you ask :p:eek:

these are LED Filament bulbs - E14 6W diamable cabdle filament bulbs

s_l1600.jpg

the previous bulbs were fine

Base Type: E14-Bent Tip
6W=50W Incandescent
Color: Cool White 6000k;Warm White 2700k
Voltage: AC 220-240V
CRI: >80
Working Frequency: 50-60Hz
Certificate: CE &RoHS
Lifespan: >50,000Hrs

can anyone care to explain or had similar issues, my google fu is failing me :D

p.s. all the other rooms have Philip Hue bulbs which dont have this effect, just this room with these bulbs

Dunno how these work wonder if they are using some kind of cheap half-wave rectifier without sufficient smoothing or something hence approx. 25hz flicker.

EDIT: Or dimmer like above.

might have to replace them with the Ikea Tradfri Smart ones, they were about £7 each, much cheaper than the Philips Hue E14s

edit: they seem to have been discountinued now

would be good to see if anyone else has had similar issues / experiences

Dear Sir,

We are very sorry for your issue with our Magic Bulbs.

But i have to ask a few questions before you can return them ;

3 different people out of how many, a thousand ?

Were the 3 ' different' people qualified to actually test light bulbs ?

How different were these people ? Weight/Height/Hair colour etc..

Please explain : ' hard to explain '

Yours with many thanks,

Magic Bulb Company.

Cheap bulbs regularly do this. I'm afraid the only option is to replace. Or convert that lighting circuit to 240v DC!
You don't have to go mental and spend a fortune on Philips Hue etc. Best advice is to buy a load of different ones, test to see which has the most tolerable/no flicker, & return the rest.
Those LED filaments have a forward voltage of 60v or so IIRC - some manufacturers just put 4 in series directly across the mains input with no smoothing circuitry.

cheers, ive requested a return, I'll go bulb shopping later today

I know what you mean - I've got the same in my place (not the bulbs but the effect)... Makes me think of a strobe effect but only very very slight.

Annoying but I've got used to it.

i got some Ikea bulbs today, the RYAT E14 400 lumens, all sorted now :D

no stobe / motion / low fps effects now

...life is normal

these POS are going back

p.s. note to self - do not go to Ikea on a bank holiday again

So, after a year of testing it seems our lumilife GU10 5w bulbs are dropping like flies within weeks of each other.

What GU10 are others using? I expected more than a year out of them to be honest.

We have a bunch of lumilife b22 bulbs and they have happily lasted 4 years so far.

Aliexpress is my go to right now. You should find them for around £15... normally a few pennies less, which is good for avoiding import duty. Make sure you choice the colour ones (purple band) and not the white only (yellow band).

Is there a difference between the Original and the English Version?
