Legend of Zelda. How are people finding it?

From experience the ones to play are:

Ocarina of Time
Links Awakening
A Link to The past
Majoras Mask
Twilight Princess
Oracle of Ages/Seasons

Windwaker was pants, they ran out of time/ideas half way through and had you doing long dull collecting missions.

which bit ? between tower of the gods and earth temple?

It's been a long long time since I completed it (a week after PAL launch) but it was where you had to gather all those triforce shards and the final dungeons and bosses... well if you're only 70% in I won't spoil it but the last third of the game stank and ruined what initially looked to be a good addition to the series.

I am just before the earth temple, collecting heart pieces at the mo. I think i'll have to start collecting the Tri-force pieces soon, might cheat and use a guide and fast forward that bit.:p

I agree a bit, but Wind Waker did lots of things right too. I thought the way the story followed on was great, and I really liked the art style. Also the combat had some fun improvements, specially the counterattack thing. Plus, the main city (forgot it's name now though) seemed to be more lively than Castle Town in TP.

TP is very sparse for a zelda game for some reason. I loved Majoras Masks busy central hub and it's an often overlooked Zelda that's well worth playing.

On Windwaker, I agree, the graphics were awesome and there were a lot of nice ideas but the way they reused a lot of the game in the later stages and sailing the seas to find many shards just to pad out the game was a very poor decision.

Edit: Majoras Mask was the king of Zelda sidequests, try it out if you haven't played it yet!

Never played MM, reason being the N64 was out at a time I had a PS1, and really into FFVII so i can't comment. But judging by the video review in the zelda retrospective videos, MM looked like it went outside the box for the Zelda adventures more than any other. It did say it was more details and the NCP moved around a lot rather than static like they are in other Zelda games where you know who are who is going to be where all the time.

I am going to play WW and finish it, then i am going to play TP, OoT will probbaly be the last one I play.

Still, my fav is Link to the Past, I can finish that in a day and get everything. :)

I dont know how people can say that TP doesnt feel 'lived in'.
If there was one flaw with previous Zeldas, its that there were very few areas that felt 'lived in'. OoT was pretty deserted, MM had only clock town, TWW had only Windswept Island.
Castle town in TP has 50+ people in it, with loads of little areas and shops. Thats more than all the towns/villages in all of the previous games put together! Admitadly Kakariko Village in TP is deserted, but it still feels lived in, and considering its ment to be a mountain village thats just been ransacked, it still retains its 'lived in' feel. As do the other areas, like Zoras Domain, Death Mountan, ect;
Summed up, their all excellent games, and all stand out as the best of their generation, but TP just feels 'Organic' the others didnt. MM came close, with the towns dotted around Termina, but they were completely deserted for the most part.
Imo.

It's just that TP has a very large overworld with hardly anything in it. It could have been half/a third the size and not felt at all cramped. There are also a lot less side quests than in traditional Zeldas with the heart pieces being ford rather than earned in a quest. Where's the fixing broken swords, mask trading, all the number of townsfolk seeking help in OoT?

It's a great game, just a little sparse for a Zelda game.

I wholeheartedly agree. Right, off to bed. Night night.

Surely OoT has the same flaw. Apart from Castle Town in that, all of the other areas are pretty barren?

There are less side-quests in the game, i have noticed that. Plus, the side quests that there are are either v.short or v.easy.
None of the massive slogs that some of the other games made you do, for something worthwhile. Like the BigGoron Sword in OoT.

OoT only has one large, useless field while TP has a few. OoTs world is smaller than TPs and seems to have more content per area than TP.

I really enjoyed MM, the only real letdown for me was the number of dungeons - but the 4th one where I think you could invert the whole dungeon, that was fantastic. I agree with what Kreeeeeeee is saying about the size of the overworld in TP. Also, even if Castle Town has 50+ people, you can't even speak to most of them. Kakariko was very lively in OoT, with the chicken fetching, the potion shop, the graveyard and Dampe.

Don't get me wrong though, I loved every second of TP.

Not sure i agree there.
Hyrule field in both games simply serves as a hub for the game. The only difference being that in TP, the field is made up of multiple areas.
Castle town in TP has more going on. Zoras Domain is about the same. As is Death mountain. Geruddo Desert is 'better' in OoT. Ordon Village has more going on than the Kokiri Village. Kakariko is about the same.

I just dont think that people can keep comparing Zelda games to OoT anymore. Yes it is an amazing game, but TP is arguably as good as, if not better than, OoT. Imo.

Zelda is just awesome, I do find that elements from the SNES version with sword forging/improving by the frog blacksmith and guiding that chap thru the caves with his magic mirror has lost a bit of the magic of Zelda but they remain remarkable games. MM doesnt seem to get much mention but i think I'll try finding it and trying that out. Just wish i had predicted the rise in demand for GC games and hardware before Wii launch and got the titles dirt cheap. Currently struggling the time to play TP but i thoroughly immersed in it already.

Agree to disagree? :)

I want to get it for the Gamecube but I've only found it on fleaBay so far, usually at around £60 - which is silly money for a game. :(

yeah, my local game shops sold out/didn't bother to stock it, I imported it anyways having a US/JAP GC naturally

But even they are out of stock now, only found one place that had the US version, Nintendo playing some dodgy tactic

Kakariko in OoT was a joke. There were 3-5 people you could talk to and that was it.
Theres a good 20-25 people in Castle town you can speak to in TP, not to mention all the shops and whatnot.

That reminds me as well, must get back to finishing MasterQuest. :-p

I'm a happy bunny now - I've just managed to get the Gamecube version of this from fleaBay for the bargain price of £33! :) :)

I got my wii on the 21st december and ive still yet to play zelda even though i bought it at the same time as i got the wii. Its not even been taken out of its seal yet.

Dunno, i just picked up zelda because the store i bought it at was doing the wii with any 2 games, already had cod 3 on the 360 and i was interested in red steel as the other so i just picked up zelda (no other games in the store at that time). Had a gamecube bundled with windwaker, played windwaker for about an hour before getting cheesed off with it and never touched it again. Rpg's generally just bore me. :(
