Lenovo Legion 5 Pro

It’s surprising they made the Legion 5 Pro better looking than the 7.
They should have dropped the 7 and just put the vapour chamber cooler and 3080 graphics in the 5 Pro.

If these were in stock I’d be torn between the 5 Pro and the 7.
As they’re not in stock in waiting for more details on the Alienware X-series.

Would appreciate some advice on best screen option.

Looking at the Legion 5 pro 16" or the std Legion 5 17.3" (if/when available).

Prefer the size of the 17.3" but the higher resolution, contrast and brightness of the Pro 16" is very tempting. In gaming the 16" would clearly be the winner but in std use the native resolution would require scaling up to 150% or 200% and/or by dropping the resolution to 1920 x 1080 so in any of those configurations would the Pro's 16" screen be any better than the 5's std 17.3" screen?

What have those of you you who have the Pro's found or can advise?

I have the none pro 15" and have to use 125% for 1080p (what Windows recommends) I can use 100% but causes eye strain far more quickly.

That was why I was asking those who actually have the 5 Pro what sort of scaling they use and if by using a scaling of 150/200% or by reducing the resolution to 1920 x 1080 are you going to loose the benefit of the higher resolution QHD screen and end up with it being much the same as the std FHD 17.3" screen?

You can order it now with the Ryzen 5600 and the Nvidia 3060 but still looking at 6-10 weeks delivery. As for the 5800 and 3070 no idea now...

I've just tried upgrading my RAM to 32GB, I bought the following kit:
Crucial Ballistix BL2K16G32C16S4B 3200 MHz, DDR4, DRAM, Laptop Gaming Memory Kit

I cannot seem to find a way to get it past 2667MHz, have I bought the wrong kit? I've not had any experience upgrading RAM on Ryzen laptops.

My guess would be that:

1) The memory clock is set by the BIOS.
2) There is nothing you can do to change it.

I bought the wrong RAM :p. I bought some more, a set of
HyperX Impact HX432S20IB2K2 but cancelled as it's not dual rank. I've now ordered some HyperX Impact DDR4 HX432S20IBK2. Third time lucky

If anyone is buying more RAM, make sure it's the BK2 code not B2K2. Apparently the dual rank is faster.

I've benchmarked a bunch of things on the stock RAM, I'll repeat the tests when my new RAM turns up.

Upgraded the RAM, getting some decent gains:

Division 2 @ Ultra. 115 FPS Vs 106 FPS
Forza 4 - @ Ultra 158 FPS Vs 121 FPS
CBR23 - MC=13190, SC=1434 Vs MC=12742, SC=1398
FireStrike Graphics = 11000, CPU = 10308 Vs 10615 Graphics, CPU = 8724

Still no update on the 3700 and 5800, however the time for delivery for the standard 5600 and 3600 has changed to 4 weeks shipping, so that's a positive for anyone who wants the base build.

The 5 Pro 3070 has just been listed for sale on a popular UK high street store website.

£1500.00

I’ve just ordered one as I’m tired of waiting for the 7, and this should come close in performance.

Aye, I ordered one. Was waiting for the pro via lenovo and student discount... could have saved myself a bit of money, but they don't seem to be in a rush, personally i think its poor (from Lenovo) i can buy one and have it next day when the manufacturer is making people wait months.

I'm actually away so mine wont come until Tuesday. Fingers crossed Currys actually have the stock.

There's a deal on the new Alienware M15 Ryzen 7 5800h rtx 3070 for £1400 as well, or can grab the newer Ryzen 9 5900 / 3070 £1600.
