Let's talk cheese

I prefer cheese made with unpasteurised milk since being introduced to it, haven't found a raw milk cheese I don't like yet. 'Keenes' Cheddar is a good one, quite tangy and strong but nice and buttery too. 'Montgomery Cheddar' is another nice one, also 'Lincolnshire Poacher'.

Also like a good Parmesan but unlike most people who use it mainly for cooking and grating, being a bit of a heathen I like to just cut at it like any other cheese and eat it in lumps. Quite like Swiss Gruyere and Emmental aswell, a good ripe Brie is another favourite. 'Lightwood' make some nice cheeses, they do a soft unp'rised one called 'Chaser' which is similar to camembert in looks with it's white rind, but tastes much tangier, it's a really nice cheese.

Tbh I spend silly amounts of money on cheese sometimes, absolutely love the stuff!!:)

Some of my favourites:

Spanish Valdeon - Fabulously tasty blue cheese wrapped in sycamore leaves.
Roquefort - Just love the sharpness of a good Roquefort.
Isle of Mull Cheddar - An insanely strong mature cheddar.
 
One of my favourites is a blue Auvergne but not the supermarket version, a relative gets it straight from the cave, it's creamy but strong - absolutely beautiful
 
Stinky cheese huh.

Taleggio is fairly dam smelly and it's not even a blue cheese.

Wouldn't have it on a board though.

Something nice albeit not at all smelly?

If you can get it, Vintage Gouda and Thomas Hoe Aged Red Leicester.

Normal gouda is a lump of rubber and normal leicester has no taste I care for but these "matured" versions taste FAR better.

Blue cheese?

Little bit of Roquefort is nice (also quite smelly), but my favourite blue cheese at the moment however is the Blacksticks Blue Premier Cru <- IIRC that's exclusive to Sainsburys.

In fact, just go to a large Sainburys and you can get all of those from their cheese counter. If you dunno about my taste then just ask to try a bit of each before you buy any.
 

My reply to you last night seemed a bit brash, sorry about that - I was wrecked and was using the onscreen keyboard.

Anyway - I prefer to buy cheese (at least when I bother going to a cheesemonger) in person as you get to taste it, and make sure you're getting a good bit. Also, that place charges £9 delivery which I really can't afford. I'm thinking of making my own cheese and port selection box for my father so trying to keep costs down. The premade boxes you get from a shop are obscene in price.
I'm just going to go to Glasgow's cheese monger (amazingly, there are only 2 in the city AFAIK!) and let them recommend something similar and give me lots of free tasters! :D
 
Anyone have any idea what this cheese could be.

It was in one of those split wood round boxes and kept in there as it was so runny. It wasn't blue, but it was extremely pungent and mega strong taste. Pretty sure it was French, and it had a blond/straw coloured rind.
 
Just slipped out of work and nipped down the farm shop, picked up a load of Lincolnshire Poacher, will be cracking into it with a glass or 2 of red later.
 
Doesn't sound like it, it says it's very mild.

Maybe I've got the name wrong. I'm sure it's Chaumes. It stinks.

Person who tried it that I read on a forum just now: said:
I just purchased this cheese for the first time and when I opened it, I thought I would be sick! Is it supposed to smell very strong & pungent - not at all like any cheese I've ever smelled.

Maybe it does smell dramatically different to its taste, haha.

By the look of you lot I'm a bobby basic when it comes to cheese, My current fave is an Extra Mature Canadian I get from my Greengrocers.
