Hopefully final update.
Even with DSC off, DP still black screens for me. But if I use HDMI, no such problem. Doesn't matter how many quality cables I bought.
The startup noise that lasts a bit still happens but hasn't gotten worse or better.

Don't confuse driver with firmware. Former is just a regular DL from LG site.

They said Firmware release "before the end of November" knowing LG maybe they meant "before the end of November 2022" lol. Hopefully, they can fix the monitor with this firmware but it would seem they are having issues releasing it.

Where did LG say a new firmware was coming before end of November?

Last week I turned my PC on, the monitor fired up, and I could hear a fast ticking noise coming from the monitor's fan. Thankfully, after a few minutes it went away.

Unfortunately it happened again yesterday and this morning, but this morning I can still hear the ticking after 45 minutes and it's still going now. Also, if I slightly change the angle of the monitor, as in, tilting it forwards or backwards a little bit, the ticking noise gets considerably louder.

I'm really annoyed. £800 for this. It's not even 3 months old.

Aww.

I hear a noise like that but only for first ~30min and it never got worse or better...
Imagine failing at something as basic as a fan. Great job LG.

You dont see people without issues post, but i have a 27GP950 since August 2021, and I have not experienced black screen problem since moving to DP connection.

FWIW, my setup:
Asrock x570 tb3/itx, 5600x, EVGA 3080, 32gb memory
LG display cable from my previous LG UW monitor
160hz refresh, extended adaptive sync, HDR off, fast response time, DAS on
Windows 11 (also no problem when connected to my Macbook M1 Pro 14 via DP, 4k @ 144hz)

When i did experience a black screen issue this was possibly caused by my old pc config where it was a bifurcation set up, there were other non-display related issues happening at the same time, and it was connected via HDMI 2.1. Now it is connected via single PCIE riser cable in a ghost s1 case. Everything has been buttery smooth, my first 4k and high refresh monitor. Love it.

Not had any issues with noise on my unit. Hopefully this remains the case.

How loud is it?
It's not exactly loud, but it's noticeable enough to be annoying in a quiet room.

My monitor made no noise at all for the first 2½ months or so, and even when I put my ear to the back of the monitor with it on I couldn't hear the fan, then this just started happening out of the blue.

It's only happened 3 times so far, each time after the monitor was turned on or woken from sleep after several hours of being off/asleep. In every case, it's stopped after 10-60 minutes and does not come back while the monitor is in use, which is a bit weird.

For now I'm just going to keep using it and see how things go, but I'm glad I didn't sell my previous monitor yet, cos if this continues I'll either be returning it to Overclockers for a replacement/refund, or contacting LG to see if they can swap the fan out for me.

Same thing here. No noise unless ear is at monitor and I listen closely. Then one day I hear it when I turn on the monitor. Not super loud. For me never got worse or better after that, and it happens every time I turn it on from a long time of not using the monitor.

Tilting monitor doesn't seems to make the sound worse for me though.

I just pray it doesn't get worse out of the blue one day...

Honestly I kindda wanna just buy a 42in LG oled tv next year. Burn in risk at least I see coming...

New update on noise. In addition to the weird noise when monitor boots up since a long time of being turned off, I can say my monitor is no longer nearly silent. I don't own an expensive db meter that is capable of capturing 30db and below with any level of accuracy, but the monitor I would say is "kind of quiet". I wouldn't say it's very quiet anymore.

So: The monitor's noise performance has degraded significantly since I first got it. I suspect it still won't bother over 50% of users though because most people are used to living in cities where they are constantly being hit with noise of cars from miles away. People are used to noisy.

Disappointing. Then again that's been the story of this sad monitor from the very beginning. Now the real question is, will it get even worse?

This any help /https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/ks7vgb/lg_27gn950_finally_found_a_solution_for_the_coil/;)

There's no mention of the fan when you go into the service menu with the GP950, so they no longer let you adjust any settings for it, unless there's another hidden menu somewhere.

Even when doing that with the older GN950, it has drawbacks. Obviously, lowering the fan speed may have adverse effects on the monitor's performance and/or lifespan, plus after accessing the service menu you can't access the normal menu unless you turn the monitor off and back on again and when you do that, it resets the fan speed to the default as there's no way to save the setting so it sticks.

You can buy replacement fan units, but I dunno how hard it would be to replace. I can't find any videos or guides of anyone doing it, and I really don't want to take a 3 month old monitor apart unless I'm 100% sure I know what I'm doing. I would contact LG about mine, but as the noise doesn't happen on every boot up, I'm concerned that they will fire it up, test it, hear nothing, then just send it back. I have also had a bad experience with LG's customer service, where I sent in a faulty smartphone that was in mint condition, then they sent it back, didn't fix the problem, but it had 2 big scratches on it that were down to the metal.

I dunno what to do. I love the monitor so it's such a shame that my experience with it is being somewhat spoiled by a fan that almost certainly costs less than a quid to make.
