LG 38GL950G - 3840x1600/G-Sync/144Hz

So, if the info regarding 38WN95C is correct, LG is capping it (max refresh rate = 144 Hz) to restrain the competition with 38GL950G instead of just making the best product they can and competing with other companies on the market.

There is some logic in that, I think.
It’s not a strategic decision, it’s technical. It’s the Gsync module in the 950G that allows for the overclock from 144Hz native to 175Hz. With that not present in the 95C, it will be restricted to the native refresh rate only

Do you think the upcoming 38WN95C will be stuck at 1.4 DP bandwith? Or will it be possible to drive this monitor at HDR600 10-bit 144 hz due to the Thunderbolt 3.0 port? Of course we also need new grafic cards for this to work.

So I would say Display Port 1.4a & HDMI 2.0b

Same as every card out now!

Thunderbolt is not just for Apple products. My new Dell laptop also use Thunderbolt, and every other high-end laptop use Thunderbolt. We just need nvidia and AMD to put it on their graphics cards too... :)

Thunderbolt 3.0 is the same as USB-C in terms of technology. Both mostly for Apple displays...and some PCs .....but Display Port 2.0 changes everything.

In the future if you wanted to run the Ultimate 21:9 resolution 5Kx2K 144Hz+ Chroma4:4:4 HDR1400 level you will need DP 2.0 crazy bandwidth to do it.

USB C is a connector, not a technology. Thunderbolt 3 isn't the same as USB C. USB 4 is adopting Thunderbolt 3 as its baseline of technology.

I've been waiting for the 38GL950G for ages but if something better is coming out only a few months later then i will just wait it out.

I agree it's annoying, but don't expect the GN anytime soon. Just look how long ago they announced the GL, and as you say, it's STILL not available. I think we'll be lucky to see the GN available in 2020... could very well be 2021 based on the delays that every major monitor release suffers with.
 
Dunno why you people are saying its not available yet? Its been out since late november in Swedistan for example, to the wonderful price of 2050£.

Hardware G-Sync is Superior to software G-Sync Compatible!

The newer version LG UltraGear 38WN95C has locked 144Hz so no OC Hz and software G-Sync Compatible (Display Adaptive Sync) (VRR) same software Freesync equivalent. .....sure has HDR 600 (10-bit) but it's a huge trade off .. . The LG UltraGear 38GL950G-B has HDR 400 which is 8-bit+FRC HDR can simulate HDR10 content..

If you're looking for a real G-Sync monitor go with UltraGear 38GL950G-B monitor .. .

If you don't care about software G-Sync Compatible and OC Hz passed 144Hz go with the UltraGear 38WN95C version ..

The LG UltraGear 38WN95C is also $500. Cheaper

I know you love your monitor and wont hear a bad word about it but never have you posted such misinformation as that. It cant even come close to "simulating" HDR10 since basically HDR10 is VESA HDR1000 standard and a HDR400 is a mile away from being a HDR1000 screen. In Fact HDR400 isnt much better than no HDR at all and there are several none HDR400 screens which have better "HDR" pictures than HDR400 certified screens. HDR400 is so useless it should be dropped and not even be a thing IMO.

Once you have used a HDR1000 or Dolby Vision screen come abck and tell me how you can barely see the difference to your screen.

144Hz to 175Hz means nothing in real world terms... 99% of users wont notice, and the other 1% will only convince themselves they do. That alone is a crazy reason to choose one monitor over the other. If high refresh is a PRIORITY feature, then either of these is a daft monitor purchase for anyone.

HDR-600 vs HDR-400 can make a significant difference, so the trade off there is FAR more significant and noticeable than the aforementioned refresh rate difference.

The 38GL950G MAY offer superior VRR performance, but this remains to be seen, and won't be known until both monitors have been properly and professionally reviewed.

Where are you seeing a $500 price difference? No prices have been announced for the 38WN95C. Please don't assume the lack of a G-Sync module means this will be the case. I think it could come in a tiny bit less, but not that much.
