LG 38GN950-B

Just got my 38WN95C, which is the same panel but with Thunderbolt and no RGB bling.

Trying to wallmount it, but seriously what is LG thinking placing the connectors like this? At least the powercable is angled, but the included Displayport cable and Thunderbolt cable? This is ridiculous. Who at LG thought this was great design for a 1500£ monitor??

Anyone know where to buy an angled Displayport 1.4 cable?

Perhaps one of these adapters (paired with a regular cable) might work? --> https://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-Disp...=angled+Displayport+1.4&qid=1605212719&sr=8-3

By the way, did you buy the 38WN95C from OC? I am one (of many?) who has placed a pre-order for this, and I am eagerly waiting for this to be re-stocked and delivered. It seems as if OC were expecting to receive new stock by November 4 and that this was delayed.

If by any chance you received your 38WN95C from OC, then I would guess they might have received stock in the last few days without updating the website to reflect this.

No I live in Denmark and got it off a local retailer. Very lucky. Everybody has it out of stock and not expected until January but somehow I managed to land an order with one and they had one in stock to send me...

I have an angle adapter like that but I am right now trying out differnet cables and having some trouble with it. The screen will blank out for a second every now and then with the wrong combination. Even with the supplied cable. So would love a quality 1.4 cable with angled connector straight through to the graphics card. Have only managed to find one on ebay through China or Amazon through USA... nothing in Europe...

Anyone know of a good wallmount that works with this screen and gives the proper space behind for the cables? Right now I have a super slim wallmount, but that leaves no space for cables, so wonder what to do to get the screen further away from the wall so the cables can fit...

Some good news, apparently OC UK has just shipped me a replacement!

A bit puzzled though as it still appears out of stock on the website

Well hopefully end of story for me, replacement received and installed, everything seems in order :)

Now questions to the other owners, what colour/image settings are you using? I've made some tweaks via OSD but I still feel there's a kind of "flashy look" / "saturation pop".

Or maybe that's to be expected when having a wide gammut monitor?

Yes that's pretty normal; selecting sRGB constrains it and the light output but I found the resulting colour temperature too cool; setting to Gamer 1 gives you more control.

Game Mode: Gamer 1, Brightness: 28, Gamma: Mode 2, Colour Temp: Custom, R/G/B: 51,48,48 * and very happy with the result.

I didn't use a colorimeter (been there done that, not bothered!), I just cycled through a couple of daylight photos and tweaked until the whites looked a bit more natural.

sRGB mode will clamp the colorspace to the proper Rec709, thus removing the oversaturation

RGB gain CAN be controlled in sRGB mode via DDC/CI through software (such as nirsoft 'controlmymonitor') to correct any slight whitepoint deviance

While choosing to 'upscale' regular content to a wider gamut is certainly a personal choice, I find the cons to outweigh the pros, for example, skin tones.

Personally, I only use a colorimeter for measurement and minor on-hardware (OSD) correction. And never bother with ICC profiles.

Found some settings that suit me, I'm now a happy 38GN950 owner :)

@Enzarch: I tried the sRGB mode but I didn't really like the look of it, felt very "washed out" to me. As you said it's not really right to use wide gamut for content which is not but I guess I got used to it in the past few days (but definitely not with the out of the box image/colour settings for me, too flashy, too red and too bright).

Ok finally unboxed mine... its great no defects of all the IPS monitors i've owned it has the least amount of bleed in the corners not sure if the quality of the monitor or simply that they're getting better at manufacturing them but its much better than it used to be. After spending a couple of hours fiddling around setting up brightness contrast etc I've got it set up how I like and not too bright less than 50% for me if its to bright it gives me eye strain. The only "ghosting" I noticed was an odd colour displacement like the pixels weren't keeping up on fast movement if on Gamer 1 or 2 mode switch to one of the other modes its fine not sure whats going on there honestly. But maybe thats the issues some people are having. Slightly surprised about the monitor adjustment theres only up/down and tilt forwards/back no sideways movement so if you want to rotate it towards you have to move the entire stand which feels a bit odd for such a high end product. Stand is sturdy at least.

Went from a 3440x1440 to this and I'm appreciating the extra screen height the other always felt a bit small a bit of a letterbox effect this is much better. Gfx card is having no issues keeping a decent fps infact its the same with either resolution so whatever reason the odd drop is its not the resolution increase. Maybe draw calls I'm running a heavily modded game. But anyway at least its not any worse. But yep overall very pleased.

Heya, new to the forum. just wanna share my experiences with this monitor.
First of all, i think i got a good sample, Very slight vignetting like super little, no dead pixel whatsoever, and nearly no IPS glow - super little in the corner. initially i wasnt impressed with the overblown color and also did the lagom black test thing, and could only see up to 5.
Took me around one a half day to realise that Win10 keeps resetting to the color profile of my previous monitor, which was Asus ROG pg279q and that monitor was calibrated by a friend of mine. SRGB, so was able to compare it when i got this monitor.
Its a newbie mistake for sure, but fixing the ICC reset problem made the day and this monitor was pretty accurate out of the box. its a little bit more vibrant still though i think.

me personally i like srgb and likes color to be not as punchy as colors in HDR (also got an oled).
monitor is awesome and i feel like 38 inch is just nice, pretty perfect, and gsync ultimate and compatible, i dont feel that much difference - THE KEY to this is Nvidia control panel - Low Latency Ultra. I activate it ONLY for the games that will struggle to have high FPS. 40-60FPS range. I have no idea what this does, but it makes the entire game smoother even with 40FPS.
so.. just my two cents for people who have issues, those above was what changed the experience from not impressed to damn impressed with the experience.

However with lagom i can see till like 3-4 now after resetting (not tweaking the OSD or anything, just resetting the color profile issues when it always reverts back to the old one, had to go to registry to do that), and also need to restart after you set it, otherwise it may not go into effect.

Granted, the weird thing is that i get tons of color banding in Netflix, but, if not in netflix, say a blu-ray.. no such thing. Let me know if anyone know how to fix this.

I have the 38GN950-B and a Nvidia GTX 1650 Super, PH-GTX1650S-O4G.

I have no picture until Windows is loaded with this monitor (-> no Signal on Displayport)

The LG Software Onscreen Controll and UltraGear Control Center did not find the monitor with DP1.4 activ, although it is recognized correctly in the Nvidia Control Panel and can be used otherwise as well. LG Software is only working if i set it to DP1.2, but still with "no Signal" at boottime!

I read ******* Nvida Cards have big problems mith DP! WTF? and they released a firmware update tool

-> https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/nv-uefi-update-x64/

Problem ... not working with the "new" 1650 Super and did not find a newer version at Nvidia Side.

So i **** of Nvida and found on the Dell side a FirmwareUpdate for 1650er GPUs ...

https://www.dell.com/support/home/de-de/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=56d88

1click, and it updates my GOP to a new version ... but still not working in DP1.4 Mode!

This should probably be in GPU sub-forum, however, I have a few possible solutions;

first is to ignore it, provided you dont need frequent access to the BIOS

Second, you could try a different vBIOS (database at TechPowerUp) and hope one has proper UEFI support

Or lastly enabling CSM in the BIOS should work

Hi I have this screen for a while now but I've tried other settings such has game mode "hdr effect" (hdr disabled)
Colors seemed better and more vibrant than in gamer mode.

However i have to limit the brightness to 75 not to go blind and i've also noticed the panel being quite hot at 100%

What settings you guys are using on this monitor?

Thanks

sRGB mode @ 25 brightness for SDR (mid-low light room)
Default 'Gamer 1' for HDR

Permission to come aboard?
I have been planning a monitor upgrade for a few weeks now and having tried a couple I now find myself in want of one of these.
YT reviews are still thin on the ground even at this stage so I was wondering what is the general consensus on here from the lucky owners?

I also see the monitor is 'on sale' at around £1299 but it seems to have been that price since at least mid-May from what I can so it's almost RRP at this stage. As I have only been tracking it recently is this as good a price as it has been since release?

Coming from an Acer Z35p so I appreciate the overall size upgrade isn't massive (although there are gains in screen real estate which will be useful) but I'm hoping the move to a higher refresh IPS panel would be an improvement.

I have this exact problem with the 38GN950-B and an Nvidia 3080ti (and had the problem with my 2080ti before). I have an Asus X299 Prime Deluxe mobo. This occurs whether or not CSM is enabled or disabled but it happens more consistently if Resizable BAR is enabled in the BIOS (which disables CSM).

With the 2080ti there would be no output on any monitors connected via displayport. The 3080ti at least outputs a signal on my older Asus PA279Q monitor but not on the LG.

It is driving me up the wall and is incredibly frustrating. I have not been able to find a fix for this.

Can anyone confirm if the 38GN950-B supports PBP?

I’m still googling but what I’m finding is the 38WN95C-W does support PBP and dual controller.

pretty much was sold on the GN however usb-c would be useful to me, PBP would be very useful and I’ll have to cope that it won’t match the style/look of the two LG UG 27 1440p monitors I already have.

I am considering the LG 38GN950-B.
And I was honestly ****** off by the DisplayPort display problem. I have a 2080Ti card (from Asus) and a PG348Q montor (34 "UWQHD also Asus). And everything works as it should. Now I wonder if after buying such an expensive monitor I will not get a problem in the "combined promotion".

Any other users have such DP problem? Is it common?

Nvidia released a bios update for the 3080ti (and one other card i can't remember) - this has completely resolved the issue for me.

I bought on last Friday. It's nice - works ok with my Asus 2080Ti. Generally its good pice of hardware...
But... Big "but". I have 8 or 9 stuck subpixel - nothing help. :(

I havent seen pixel problem for many years till now. I am very disappointed.
I paid almost 1300 EURO for this - I reported the problem to the seller and to LG. I am waiting for a decision to replace. LG in Poland has a policy of replacing monitors with new ones within 45 days (0 pixel/subpixel warranty), but only for private consumers. I bought the monitor for my own company and it's not that nice anymore. I cannot recommend LG with a clear conscience. I found a lot of information on the web with a similar problem. WhyI had not verified it earlier... :(
