LG 38UC99 - 37.5'' 24:10 3840x1600 75Hz IPS FreeSync Strobing Backlight

I hope this monitor has fixed the image retention issues of the 34UC88 / 98.

I am really looking forward to some proper in depth reviews for this monitor as there really is no truly great ultrawide available. They all have issues whether it is image retention, backlight bleed or just general QC problems.
 
Not as good as I had hoped

- high input lag
- rather high pixel response time (in normal mode)
- contrast ratio not as good as other IPS monitors

:(

Time to stop milking LCD and roll out the OLED monitors!!!!

Hmm... very tempted just not sure I want to go first.

Did you try to extend the FreeSync range? If the screen could hit 85hz could the strobe also be run at 85hz?

It's a shame the panel turned out so slow on pixel transitions, and the scalar getting it's hands in everything causing lag...

Did you by chance see if the strobing backlight mode could overclock at all? IE: 76 Hz and up?

Was the input lag the same in 75 Hz Freesync and strobe backlight mode?

I'm not sure I could handle 75 Hz flicker...

I was considering getting this strictly for productivity when the price drops but frame skipping at 75 Hz on NV cards kills it for me. I'm sensitive to flicker so I think there's no way I could use the strobing option on the desktop.

Any chance you think they'll sort this out with a FW update or something? Probably unlikely considering the frameskipping was never fixed on the 34" ultrawides for Nvidia users.

not tried any overclocking at all, not sure if i have time to do so but i might manage to take a look. The lag was the same regardless of refresh rate or blur reduction being active, i did check that

I was just curious if you still had the monitor. If the refresh rate could make it to 80 or 85 the strobing may be a lot more bearable. I know it would be a long shot.
 
having used strobing backlights at 85Hz on other monitors i don't think it would really help much. the flicker is pretty comparable to those models which do strobe at 85Hz so thats probably a decent indication for most people
 
I noticed you used a 970 for testing, any chance you have a Pascal GPU to test with the monitor? Just curious if the same frame skipping issues are present. It's a long shot, but Nvidia did change stuff on the DP side with Pascal since it supports 1.3.
 
Looks as though there are some mixed replies in these threads.
For us casuals, would you actually recommend it Baddass?

Worth £1k?
For productivity?
For image/video editing?
Watching movies?
Okay for casual gaming?

Or would you recommend holding out for similar panels from other manufacturers and price drops on this size of panel?
