LG 42-inch OLED

I pulled the trigger today and got it from JL with an extra £100 off with MYJL100, so it was £849. I also went for the 5 years accidental damage which was an extra £90 that covers burn-in.

I dont regret grabbing mine the other week at £799 from JL despite the fact they were available yesterday elsewhere at £670!!!!! I did buy the extended warranty as well. they might yet hit £600 by the end of Black Friday. Makes no sense to look at buying most PC monitors in comparison when they cost so much more.

Thats the one, on mine its more pronounced however.
Frenzy - thats what I thought also!

Incidentally, is there anyway to determine the panel type from the box? Whats the "panel" to have?

Not sure how large your gap is but I think you have to account for slight imperfections, some guys got warped or bent panels for example, others the bezel sticking out and not inline with the TV.

I guess if you can't see it from a few inches away you might be fine but its your call.

I don't think there is a proper way to find out the panel still, but some guys around the net are putting some listings. I think its on reddit somewhere.

This ones an older listing:

here

and

here

Do you know what your code is under oled module 2, under the service menu?

Some reddit post here, here, here, here

But this is the jist of it for now:

In the service menu find "Module Info 2" and the panel type will be one of the following:

  • WBC (old panel) = 00/00/1/03
  • WBE (new panel) = 08/00/1/03

Might be other codes about but its messy atm

It’s one of the best PC investment I have made. Multitasking has gone up a level, especially as my work only gave me a laptop that can only connect to one monitor. MacBook Pro 13” can only connect to one external display, and the display they send me was a 27”.
My rig hasn’t even taken full advantage of the screen as I still have a 1080Ti, so that’s my next upgrade, then a set for another say 4 years minimum.
Yeah, I don’t regret buying it at that price even if it goes lower, it is what it is.

It will come. I got fed up waiting. My ideal screen would be a 32" QD OLED 175hz 4k screen or a 38" QD OLED 175Hz 5150 x 2133 . We are a good few years away from that. In the meantime I will enjoy by 42" LG C2 and by then, no doubt, I wont want to downsize to a 32" screen lol

Just setting up my new one here, I can't seem to get it to display 120hz in the Display settings or Nvidia Control Panel..Maximum it showing is 60hz. I've tried 3 8k high bandwith HDMI cables I had and also the one that was included with the TV. Any ideas guys? I'm in game mode on the TV too.

Deepcolour enabled on the TV?

To be fair, I don't think there was too much difference from my CX to C2 even, I don't have it anymore to do a direct comparison exactly but OLED is OLED. There are a few people with 2018s C8s comparing it to their C2s and saying not much difference either on AVS community.

Vincent teoh did a video where he calibrated the C1 and C2 and could not see too much difference, mainly in low level content and motion improvement usually.

I think QD future tech maybe 4-5 generations in and LGs next gen OLED tech the one due in few years might make it a more truer and worthy successor.

Yes all configured at the time of posting.

Shortly after that I was able to get it, once I renamed HDMI2 as "PC" the option was then there.

Thanks.

Question for everyone else. What are you finding the best for the text scaling options? It recommends 300% but sitting 2 foot away that seems massive, the clarity in the text is insane though. I've knocked mine down to 200% now.

I do 300% myself but it is very big so you have to kind of judge the text size yourself. 200% is good too.

You don't need to rename hdmi ports to PC to get PC mode anymore, its better to click source button (button on right side of microphone butt) and select home dashboard then click top right 3 dots>edit inputs and adjust your hdmi sources to their correct sources, ie PC etc Games console etc

@Baddass and @Greebo

Does this post mean those internal test patterns are going to be better fixed on the C2 so one can get an X-rite/Calman and attempt the TFT central Calibration guide?

Not sure if Greebo if you had a chance to test Calman to see if it worked yet, its confusing since many guys over on AVS and AVF say it does not work still, maybe the new firmware next month will fix it.

100% here and perfect for my eyesight. Sat approx 80cm to 1m from screen.

Not yet but i have refrained from allowing it to update the firmware yet in the hope that if it works in the current firmware then good, if not I will try the latest firmware.

Is there a sticky of all the things I should set for using it as monitor anywhere? I know there has been lots of good advice over the many months?

and should i be running at 12bits or just 10bits?

yes sounds like it. i've been speaking to Portrait Displays about it too :)

although having said that, you should also be able to calibrate SDR and HDR modes (not DV) using a PC/laptop input without needing to use the TV's built in pattern generators anyway. i've not had chance to test it and make sure, but you should be able to use PC generated patterns from Client 3 (free) from Portrait, like you would when calibrating any monitor....that should work here afaik as long as you've calibrating from a connected PC/laptop, which you need to anyway

for TV settings follow this guide:

you can select either colour depth, but the panel is 10-bit native and there's not really much content in 12-bit so i'd probably just stick at 10-bit for ease :) no harm either way really. that is assuming you've got a graphics card with HDMI 2.1 so you can run 4K 120Hz 10-bit RGB chroma.

Sounds positive, I think some guys did try using the PC patterns but it may not have worked for them but can't be too sure they did seem to go the Pi route instead. Does feel like LG and Calman want to get it sorted as much as they can, DV on the other hand sounds messy.
