LG 48CX OLED - 4K 120 Hz

Just sold my acer x27. Paid £1500 for it 12 months ago, sold it for £880...

Want a 48cx but the gamma and now brightness issue is putting me off. Plus its £1489 and does not seem to be reducing in price at all..

Also, lg announced their next year oleds and a 48 inch wasnt planned, which is odd. You would think all the hdmi 2.1 issues would be resolved in next years versions.

There is literally no good option right now, stupid to buy a monitor without hdmi 2.1 support and downsides with the cx range.. Grr why did I sell the x27 lol

I think this is the first real issue LG have faced with its cx firmware still and if you look at it another way at least they roll out firmwares on a regular basis almost once per month, Samsung and Sony and others are still rolling out software firmwares in 3-6 months if not more. Am sure LG will either release it fixed or in a future update.

Where did you see LGs 2021 Oled range ? I only heard about their C1 name tag, id guess they would not mention the 48C1 since their 48CX just came out more fully and they don't want to hinder current sales. Id bet LG release a 48C1 fall of 2021 just to cash in, by then hdmi 2.1 devices will be more available and main stream and hopefully the teething bugs ironed out.

LG CX is certainly not without its faults but then no TV or Monitor is perfect, its still the best spec wise screen going imo for gamers or movie watchers.

The gamma issue is meant to be a fault with the panels (both oled and LCD) and cant be fixed with a software update. It can be suppressed through calibration but not eradicated.

HDTVTest did a video on the new LG models very recently, and there was not 48c1. But as you said, likely will still get released...

I'm getting really tempted to buy one of these instead of getting a 38" UW monitor.

I'll be approximately 1.1m away from the screen. Judging by most of the setups I've seen this is further away than most people but should be an ideal distance. The only issue I might have is that it will be sitting on a raised pedestal about 9 inches high (big corner desk) so the top of it will be quite high.

I think the best option for me is to make a cardboard representation of it and see how it will look.

Exactly what I did with the cardboard mock up but its not really going to help too much, its one of those things when its in front of your noggin and switched on you really can see the scale of things.

I use to think 1m was ok but its still just massive really, some guys push there chairs back but guess this is ok if you are on a console with a game controller in your hand not a keyboard/mouse, id feel 1.3-1.5m is the sweeter spot but that is just my taste for now I am roughly 1-1.2m away but its certainly a struggle for desktop use, films though that can't be done at all that needs a good 3-4 meters away imo.

What are peoples thoughts on pricing. Any likelihood of a sale on them in the new year (and not £10 off like currys)...

Tricky for 48cx prices to come down, its too new and still going out of stock quickly. Demand is going to be silly for it due to entire planet upgrading to hdmi 2.1 multiple hardware in 2021 also.

Best way I reckon is wait for curries and JL and others to do those discount or promo runs where they do free £100 gift card or free FN4 ear phones usually worth £99 and then sell it on flebay.

Check price matches also and try Richer S telesales team they have been known to knock off money, you can maybe tell them Curries ebay does it for 1479 they might do it less to tempt you.

Flebay also been known to do some refurb units (usually stock that has been repaired by LG) and then resold at discounts for around 1.3K, there is one listed there currently with failed delivery return + 5 year warranty @ 1288 but you have to sort out shipping or email them for shipping cost, they pop up time to time.

That's a good point about scale - I was only thinking overall dimensions. Having said that, I'm pretty sure I'll be using mine for games and video only... general PC use will still be done on a 27" monitor beside the TV. Hoping 1m will be the sweet spot for desk depth!

You're describing exactly what I suspected. How high does yours sit above your keyboard/mouse or are they on the same flat space ?

currently im using my CX48 with 85cm distnace its ok for me, at first it was overwhelming comming from a 30 inch but it was 50cm away from me , i can still push my cx back to 100cm or also 110cm if i set back a little bit, but my eys not that clear already so the text would be blurry for me have to use glasses which i hate if im on a pc so went back to 85cm and its all good for me

I still have a question which remains unanswered. Has anyone here done any color critical work? I'm speaking of photoshop, raw image files, sRGB etc.
In the past 6 months I have tried a multitude of gaming monitors, trying to find one (preferably a 32") which was color accurate. I cannot. There aren't any.
As I type this message I'm using a Samsung Odyssey 32" G7, which I will return shortly. Say no more!
My current set up involves two Asus PB328Q, these are professional monitors that are extremely color accurate, perfect contrast, near perfect blacks, but lack in the gaming department because they are older, slower, and only do 75hz. All of the above has led me to this CX48" oled "reasoning", which when (and if) I buy it, I want to ensure it is color accurate, and it could potentially replace one of my 32". Another school of thought, would be to use the Oled simply for gaming, and watching the occasional HDR your tube video and forget the PC monitor part. The problem with this, becomes, that then I have failed to replace my current monitors with a hybrid that can do everything well. Which is initially what I had set out to do.
Your thoughts?

for lightroom / photoshop / capture one etc, i calibrated mine with an xrite hw calibrator and its excellent. It’s sat next to my eizo pro level photo monitor and it’s very close now its calibrated.

Yeah I use a 28inch 4K screen as my daily, both the 28inch and LG CX48 are 300% scale, prefer larger text and icons to help with eye strain. You should be fine I just double checked am roughly 1.1m away atm, but I don't sit right up against the desk since I have longer arms and legs and need the space. It just takes time to get use to it and I find windows night mode or Flux is a eye strain saver, I go pretty low on flux 2400k temp when surfing but can slide it to max if required.

Well I have a desk which is 85cm deep and 120cm length, tend to sit roughly 110cm away from my 48CX. The CX is wall mounted and the bottom of it is 20cm above the desk. I still use my 28inch 4K on the left of it as a daily. I guess its personal preference if you want the CX to be mounted lower but I like it a bit higher so its in line with my head looking straight on while my 28inch 4K screen is much lower 1-2 inches above the desk also wall mounted.

It really does make a difference when you go 100-110cm back, at first I sat end of my desk making it 85cm but even with flux and 300% windows scale it takes some getting use to, guess with regular breaks you can manage it better but 100-110cm is where you can be more relaxed is the better word.

Try increasing the scale of windows that way the text is bigger and so are the icons, if you don't like it in windows you can always increase text size manually in ff or chrome. I use Flux also for quicker night mode temps otherwise my eyes would be dead.

I'm 85cm away and for gaming its fine and incredibly immersive. For movies I generally sit back on my bed.

03.11.30 for me

Still waiting on bit more information on this brightness/nits drop issue during gaming and movies though, its confusing some say its fine others say its 100% an issue and this is coming from some tv calibrators also.

Guess this could be why LG do a slow roll out and its not on the website yet, maybe it got delayed or pulled by LG. Mind you some are forcing the update via the engineers hack with the 3rd party LG remote.

Personally id wait if you can.

yeah it just boils down to where your comfortable, i forgot to mention im using 125% scaling

gaming and doing work 85cm and if im watching movies, i'll layback so around 110cm

so far anywhere from 80cm to 110cm is common distance people use
