LG CX (C10) OLED 2020 Thread

Starting to regret buying one of these. It's a nice TV but just let down by lack of support from LG.

I didn't realise until purchasing that it came with a lack of some free, on-demand features you would expect as basic such as 4OD and MY5. I don't watch live TV so this isn't much of an issue, but having wanted to try SteamLink and gone to search to find that isn't supported either, yet is with SOny and Samsung TV's. LG don't upgrade OS over time either so it's not like you will get any updates that would rectify this. Kind of feels like I've bought an expensive non-smart TV, since I now need something to make it smarter..

Note to self never buy another LG product since they lack future support.

Can anyone recommend the best way to game wirelessly on my TV via my PC in another room? I don't wish to buy an NvidiaShield since I only really want to game on a few controller based games, mostly singleplayer, but possibly Rocket League if the latency isn't dire. I tried using Windows 10's share feature - not even sure if this LG even uses MiraCast like previous models do - but it is really laggy, only 60fps and 1080p.

LG don't update the "OS" but they are one of the best for releasing and supporting TVs over time via firmware fixes and adding new features, they added BBC iplayer at a later date I believe, and also MY5, but the latter had issues so they removed it on the CX, I presume it will eventually show up again. But ideally the TV should have had all the popular streaming apps from the start.

I did notice it had Iplayer and channel 3's on demand now. I didn't think it had any, so presumed I got it wrong and there was 'some' when I checked before writing this post, since I don't really use them. it wasn't something I noticed in great detail but I found quite a shambles when my parents who bought the same TV asked me how they get to their on demand features.

No one does in the TV industry. Annual release cycle means new products are developed per year and it's challenging to keep adding features to previous platforms, when you're busy integrating them to next year's design.

Bugfixes happen for a while but in general once a TV is 18-24 months old it's out of scope for software updates.

I'll have a poke around for Steam streaming solutions.

Edit: lots of people recommend Raspberry Pi with Steam Link if you can hard wire network.

Thank you. Yeah I've been doing my own research since this post and some say that a second hand steamlink is a good option, but a rasberry pi gives more flexibility to do other things also so I might go down that route

Anybody worked out a way to have the magic remote turn on their amp (infra red) when the telly is turned on?

I know there is the option after pressing the “…” button but I’m looking to have both the telly and amp turn on with the same button press?

Got my 65 CX OLED up on the wall now. We had our 55 B6 OLED nearly five years and the only real driver to upgrade was to get a bigger TV. The actual picture is better but it's not blown us away like when we first got the OLED back in 2016. The main difference is brightness and motion handling, it really is brilliant. Everything set up 100% apart from the Onkyo 676 which refuses to pass through DV @ 60Hz, it'll only do 24Hz otherwise it flickers constantly. I've set the HDMI input to enhanced but no joy. Play back is fine, the menu in the shield is just dog slow :(

Motion handling is bad when panning tons of judder even with Cinema Real enabled.

That’s me had my 55CX for over a week now. Absolutely stunning, couldn’t be happier with it. Bought a Hue Gradient strip for the back, I’m using my PC to drive it as I don’t watch TV - wow!

I do notice the occasional judder while watching movies, found Real Cinema off and Truemotion set to natural works fairly well.

Does anyone know if there is a way to turn the ‘no signal’ message off while keeping the art backgrounds?

Just got my 65cx setup. Was going for the 55 but with some John Lewis vouchers and offers it was hard to resist the 65. It's awesome based on a few hours watching so far. I've barely scratched the surface of playing with the settings, but coming from a GT50 Panasonic plasma, it is breathtaking.

I'm now on the hunt for 4k content to watch. Have Netflix and Amazon Prime. The predictable annoyance so far is that despite paying virgin media £100 a month for ultimate oomph, turns out sky UHD channels are only for new subscribers for some reason and there is still no sky sports UHD on virgin - any idea how much I'm looking at for Sky UHD on Virgin (I'm in the middle of a contract). That being said, the UHD BT sport I was watching was a noticeable improvement on HD.

Now to track down a PS5 or Xbox Series X.

If your into movies then a Apple 4k tv box would be a great addition to your setup and there are some cracking deals on movies to be had.

New AppleTV looks a good buy and hadn’t realised movies had got so much cheaper on iTunes. I’m also hoping it would mean Netflix and prime video UHD are more reliable. The built in apps seemed very choppy despite the tv being on 5ghz WiFi and 600meg virgin.

24 hours in and I’m still not sure any company has got UI’s right on TV. WebOS seems ok but haven’t quite got my head round it. There is almost too much with all the apps, assistants, smart home features.

For virgin media - 10 minute chat and they want £6 pm for sky UHD but gave it for free when I pushed back given new customers get it on the same package.

No sign of sky sports UHD yet.

We is is pants I much preferred TizenOS. I wish it used Android TV but I can buy an Nvidia TV shield or something.

A question what micro cloth do you use to clean the OLED! Any links;)

I’ve been using a dry cleaning cloth for sunglasses. Works really well.

For those who have recently updated - is anyone else having difficulty running store/demo mode? Worked fine until I updated now when I switch from home to store nothing happens, the demo video doesn’t load or play.

I can't say that I ever worry that I can't turn on the store/demo mode... :D
