LG Flatron 29UM65-P (29") UltraWide Monitor Owners Thread

Yeah, 4K is too small for me, sick of altering the text size all the time :(

i couldn't go back to 1920 x 1080 now.

Thanks for the pic :)

Indeed! 1920x1080 is soooo last year :p

No problems at all with text size on this monitor, very similar if not the same as my dell u2311h

NP :) Of course the display itself looks a heck of a lot better in real life.

@Nexus - I remember you taking photos trying to illustrate your backlight bleed. How did you manage to do that and get a realistic shot without it looking way worse from the photo than it is when you look a the monitor...?

Ah that is awesome, thanks :)

Do you game much on this? FPS?

Yup! Main game is bf 4. The ultra wide 21.9 provides a really nice immersive feel/look, something which can only be experienced in real life.

As for input lag, I don't notice any and iirc these 29" uw screens range from 0-10ms.

Motion blur wise, there is some but with the high response time setting it really isn't noticeable unless you are specifically looking for it.

I have posted a few photos of games on this screen in my review

Unfortunately my photos are crap compared to mrk's :(

Back then I couldn't as I didn't think I could adjust my exposure, however, the bleed on my first two were very bad and not far of what the photos showed, I could even notice the bleed during the day especially the bottom left corner.

Recently just found out that I can adjust the exposure with my nexus 5 though so posted a photo a page or two back as well as updating my review.

Probably tell you it is perfectly normal and to use it only in a bright room with low brightness lol....

Keep trying different ones/chat sessions if that happens.

I never knew that I could adjust the exposure on my Nexus 5, well I never...!! The photos look better when that is done but, for some reason, it always seems worse on the photo than I have seen when using the monitor...?!

Camera sensor reveals all ;)

But yeah I think the nexus 5 camera only got exposure control sometime in the last few months. Unfortunately the photos look pretty crap without HDR+ mode though!

lol they don't so much reveal all as reveal more than the eye can see - so not always realistic.!

I agree with your thoughts about HDR mode.

Still the AOC has now been delivered and set up etc. Once I figure out a price for the LG I'll put it up for sale.
I put something in the price check section to see if I get any suggestions on its value.

mmmm

First thoughts were....

Where has my monitor gone and why have they sent me a 4:3 square box...?!! Seriously I had to check to ensure that I had the right model umber and size etc, as the 16:9 aspect ratio seemed more square over the familiar 21:9 I had become used to...!

Once checked I was pleased with the stand, some had complained how poor that it was, especially having come from the great stand on the LG - which has great vertical adjustments etc. If people want to see a poor stand just look at the DGM's...!
It is very nice to have more vertical space but equally I had got used to playing games in the Ultra Wide (UW) screen format and so it might take a little while getting used to that change.
I am replaying Metro 2033 Redux at the moment and played it this morning at UW and just fired it up again on the new monitor and I sort of missed the UW support.
Still the screen is excellent and all games will support the 16:9 AR and thus no need to fiddle any more with patches, fixes and potentially strange HUD's etc if not properly supported.
The text size is smaller than it was on the LG but overall the colours and vibrancy etc, by my eye, seemed to be pretty much the same. Certainly nothing that stands out in any significant way.
I do like the semi matte aspect to the screen, similar to the LG. The DGM had a very glossy and reflective screen which was great for black depth etc but really bad with reflections.

As you probably know with a 21:9 you do get IPS glow which can be more pronounced with a UW monitor as you naturally are sat more off centre to the screen edges. In other words you see what could be thought of as bleed to then move your head over to be perpendicular to the left of the right corners of the screen and it goes. Well that is much less noticeable with the 27" "box".. (lol)

I have set the AOC up with a profile that I downloaded from a review site and I'll leave it at that for a while.

I am happy with the choice I have made but it is not as clear cut to suggest that the AOC is better, it is just different.

At least I can now see my speakers either side on my desk and the AOC, in that respect, is much better for me as it seems to fit my very limited room.

I got mine this morning. No bleed or dead pixels. Looks amazing! Wish i upgraded sooner. My only problem is that the "game" setting on the monitor pretty much just puts a blue tint on the screen? Cinema seems a lot better.

haha, I also think the same now when I see any 16.9 display vimes :D

Sounds like a great monitor! I do find myself longing for more vertical height and res. at times! Maybe the next 29-32" UW monitor will have 2560x1440.....

Can't say I have had too many issues with games and proper 21.9 support, the few that haven't got proper support are easily fixed with this program though:

@voister

Yup exactly the same here, afaik, the preset modes are just colour profiles, I am 90% certain that there is no difference in response time or input lag. Yup again, cinema the best preset for colour accuracy, I use that with a brightness of 5% and have set my gamma to 1.05 in AMD CCC.

So that is 3 owners in a row now who haven't had any bleed issues with their first LG 29" screen? Looks like LG have at long last fixed the issue then...

Flawless Widescreen is a godsend. The only game iv had an issue with where I just couldn't get it to run in ultrawide was Mass Effect 2 or 3. Can't remember which but I just remember I couldn't get it to run in ultrawide.
Games really just feel so much more immersive now though compared to 16:9. Cant wait to try Alien Isolation in ultrawide.

LG have three 29" widescreens available through OcUK all relatively priced the same. What's the major difference between the three? All I see is a slight increased contrast ration on the B65.

29UB65-P
29EB53-B

Yup alien isolation is going to be amazing on 21.9 screens

Mostly just the difference in stands chiz. The eb53 has different osd controls and more connection ports iirc, I believe that is the one mrk got, I linked his review a bit further up
