LG Flatron 29UM65-P (29") UltraWide Monitor Owners Thread

Can't get over just how bright this monitor is! I have now reduced my brightness to 7, might even go down to 5

BTW, been messing about a bit more with the UFO test site i.e. colours and the speed. Medium response time setting is actually much better than high, trailing is quite obvious on a variety of colours when the speed of the boxes are slowed down to 480 (which I feel is similar to the motion/speed of films and slower paced games), at the fastest speed, high setting is probably better though...

So my settings are now:

brightness - 7 (might put to 5)
contrast - 68
gamma 1
Red value - 48
Blue value - 51
green value - 50

What's the difference between this one and the 29UB65-P that's also available? Only thing I can see is the higher contrast ratio but that's always been an arbitrary number and doesn't factor hugely in my decision.

Looks like the UB65 has a much better stand:

- adjustable height
- portrait mode
- nicer looking stand

And perhaps a matte bottom strip? Hard to tell...

Those are the only differences I can see and of course the price.

I read the LG 34UM95 (pretty much the same panel except res., size and a few extra features) review last night and they found gamma 0 setting to be closer to 2.2 figure than the default gamma 1 setting so after a bit of tweaking, I got mine pretty much looking like cinema preset mode :p So have just stuck with cinema mode now and 5% brightness!

Got a link to the review?

I know, I said that in my post! :p

Apart from res., size, hardware lut and a few other features/differences, they are quite similar.

I only wanted to know what they thought of the preset modes and calibration stuff.

I only just realised that I can control the exposure with my nexus 5, I had to turn HDR+ off first :o

So this is pretty much what my screen looks like in real life:

As opposed to this where the exposure setting is higher:

The top left is IPS glow and only noticeable in real life when you view the screen from the right side.

And with the LED back lighting turned on, the blacks look a bit better with the IPS glow being pretty much eliminated completely unless viewing from an extreme angle from the right side.

PS. keep response time setting to high, I messed with it again but with a better/more accurate test, reduces motion blur by quite a bit!

Also, for those using cinema preset mode, if you find the image a bit too dark/dull, up the gamma by one notch via nvidia/AMD control panel, so in my CCC, gamma is set to 1.05.

Wow. Well i'm looking to upgrade from my Acer G6 1080p. Just bought a ASUS 970. Wanted something a bit more special when it comes to a monitor. This might be the ticket. Can I justify another £250 on a student budget :/

Just done exactly the same, except I got 2 970s... And some water blocks, and stuff to redo my loop, and a new pump, and a new turbo for the daily because that's on its way out and... No wait, the credit card is actually on fire... Guess that's it for this month. :D

I also bought some white braided cable extensions And some stuff for my loop too! Can't afford to add the GPU in yet though. Probably won't if its as quiet as people say.

Its here!

A few images of it on my desk. Also tried to show its colours but pictures don't do it justice.

I am only running it on HDMI atm as my new GTX 970 isn't coming until tomorrow. So have it plugged into a GTS 240... :o

Can't wait to see it running with games. :D

Haven't noticed any light bleed either, which is a bonus.

Very happy with this monitor. Will take a while to get used to it being so wide though!
