LG Flatron 29UM65-P (29") UltraWide Monitor Owners Thread

Just got my 29UB65-P and so far only noticed a little light bleed (is that what you guys calls it, slight difference in the black area compared to the rest of the screen?) at the left hand bottom corner but when having normal desktop backgrounds I don't really notice it so will have a look how it looks when watching a movie later on tonight maybe, if it not bothering me when watching a movie I be ok with it. :D (Considering it wont be my main screen it don't have to be perfect for me. :) )

Got a bit worried at first though since had big black bars on left and right side until I realized the desktop backgrounds were 1920 x 1200. :o Once I corrected that "problem" with some 2560 x 1080 backgrounds it all looked better.. :D

Wont have time to tinker around to much with it until weekend though but so far all good. :D

Edit: If anyone knows of a good site with 2560 x 1080 wallpapers on that you would recommend would love the link. =)

Bleed = will be visible even when viewing heads on
IPS glow = increases/decreases as you move your head around

wallbase and interfacelift are the websites I use, although I get 4k wallpapers as when you choose the 2560x1080 version, it just zooms/crops in where as with 4k images and the windows setting set to "stretch", you get the entire content and it doesn't really look stretched.

I wouldn't put up with bad backlight bleed/IPS glow. Take photos and post your issues here and see what Bailey says:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=116

If it is "bad" then Bailey should arrange for DPD to pick the monitor up and won't cost you anything.

Where abouts is the stuck pixel, if it isn't in the central area then personally it wouldn't bother me and I am 99% sure that ocuk/LG wouldn't consider it to be a fault either.

Good news about your GPU anyway :)

Indeed (on the GPU) :)

Apologies for the late reply today - up to my next in work due to a looming deadline (of midnight).

SO... knowing that my GPU was going back I bought a mini displayport to display cable for my macbook air which arrived today. I plugged it in and things just got weirder.

The stuck pixel incidentally was in the left third of the screen but right at eye level. Most annoying!

Anyway, all along I've thought it a little odd that everyone here is talking about eye-watering brightness and dropping the brightness level down to 20, 15, some even lower than 10. We're all different so as mine was just fine out of the box at 70, and at the brightest gamma setting, I just shrugged and moved on. But on the MacBook Air things got darker.

I normally use some RGB profile or other (forget which one it is) that makes the colours a bit darker as I like them nice and deep, but I found I had to use the Adobe RGB which is normally really light. Then I loaded up WoW and found everything to be all saturated and dark. I had to override the gamma setting (in the game) and crank the slider up between 3/4 and full which I've never had to do before.

This was very odd and frankly, it could be the cable, or my macbook air, but on top of the bleed, the glow and the stuck pixel this was enough to pick up the phone. Just to ask if I was missing something obvious or doing something wrong really, but the chap said it seemed odd and issued a return.

Ho hum, I really loved it overall as well. Right for now, I'm going to take a deep breath and go back to my 21" TV while the GPU is sorted and then take stock and see what options I have!! Will probably post a "recommend me a monitor" post when I'm a bit less busy...

Just watched The Mummy and couldn't see anything wrong with the picture and such so me happy with this monitor. :D

But whopsi, just played a random movie while trying a game, Bejeweled 3, which not the most taxing game there is but it was visible lagging when doing the moves so guessing I be buying a 2nd card tomorrow. Got to see what the shops over here does before I grab what's in my basket though, just in case. :o

Thanks Nexus I will have a browse through on those 2 websites and see what I can find. :)

Does anyone have any experience playing console games on this monitor? I assume the image is stretched instead of native resolution like on PC games?

got mine through on wednesday and it's a lovely monitor. not used it for gaming, just trying to get used to the real estate. i love the way it splits the screen in to two or four boxes. whats the optimum settings for it?

is the bleed in games or movies easy to spot? stunning so far. looks the nuts too. £285 del i got it for :)

Best settings in the first post :)

I am using prad's settings now though so:

15% brightness
66% contrast
gamma 1
R = 47 G = 48 B = 50

If the bleed/IPS glow is bad then yes it will be easy to spot particularly at night on dark content i.e. gravity or alien isolation

Has anyone here properly calibrated their monitor yet i.e. with a hardware calibrator? If so, can you post your settings please.

Has anyone seen the 29MA73?, it's around £50 less than the 29UB65-P and the only main differences seems to be the stand you get on the UB65 and the TV tuner on the MA73. Does anybody have one, if so is there anything negative about it?

Thanks :) Seems small for such a large monitor, I need atleast a 50cm extending wall mount due to the position i'll have to put it in, but with it being 75mm and the position of the ports, i'm yet to find one long enough that doesn't also block the ports :( any tips?
