LG OLED 2023 Thread - A3, B3, C3, G3

Hey! So on an an ultra HD blu ray I have that source set to a cinema mode (custom). 16:9 aspect with just scan on.

Brightness and contrast 100. Black level 55. Dynamic contrast off. Tone mapping on. Expression enhancer off (is this a new setting?!). Peak brightness high. Video range auto and eye care off.

All colour settings untouched.

Sharpness 10. Super resolution off. Noise/mpeg on low. Gradation on high. Trumotion on cinematic.

Thatll probs annoy many purists haha.

Again taken from phone...

Don't you find 100 contrast/oled light eye burning bright? It actually hurts my eyes on my c9

Oh don't set "brightness" to 100 lol that is black level

I assume he means OLED light when he says brightness, though his black level should be on 50 and not 55.

I don’t find 100 contrast and OLED light to be eye burning bright because HDR uses those settings differently so it’s not like the entire screen is blindingly bright, just the parts that are intended to be.

Yeah I just don't like it with high light output areas, where it's so bright, where you have to squint.

"Peak brightness" is another setting can use on C9.

I noticed difference between SD 1080p and Alien HDR in these two bits, the ship landing lights, and the rotating light

Aye oled pixel brightness 100 when on 4k HDR content. I couldn't get away with 50 on black level unfortunately. I always felt like it needed a slight boost (decrease) . Personal taste I guess.

But a 55 black level is an increase I’m surprised you don’t end up with slightly grey blacks. The default is 50 and considered correct, even professional calibration doesn’t change it.

In a pitch black room with black level on 50 you can’t see any light at all from my OLED on a black screen it’s like the TV is off.

Indeed. 50 tops. Some movies I even drop down to 48.

Amazing how quickly you get used to a big screen. The C3 42” was a bit overwhelming at first as a PC monitor, but I’m definitely used to it now and it’s absolutely epic and immersive. It’s also great now that it correctly turns on and off with the PC.

It just lacks a tiny bit of brightness and vibrance that my S95B has.

My original intent for my garden room was just an office/playroom, but I am thinking a proper large screen and decent audio will make it brilliant as a cinema type room. @kidloco any chance you can upgrade and sell me the 83 at an outrageous discount? :D

Could someone confirm that the Premier Sports app is available on the LG Store? £7.99 per month for La Liga sounds very appealing!
Just checked my B9 (Only TV I've got to hand) and it's not there. Article from April though:

The new streaming service is supported by a wide range of devices and platforms, including iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, PC and Mac, FireTV and AndroidTV, Chromecast, with dedicated Smart TV apps for Samsung & LG devices coming soon.
Apparently available as an add-on to Amazon Prime if you have that already.

Anyone else noticed problems running Gradation on high? I've had to knock it back down to low. It has been working fine up until recently, but since the last update I've been getting some funny graphical glitches. Sometimes the TV produces like a smudged halo/banding around the outline of objects, I noticed it when watching the football recently. The second is when the picture is dark but you can just about make out the background of the image (like say it is a scene in a cave or in a cellar), it is almost like the TV struggles to differentiate and the background suddenly flickers and all becomes smudged and blurred. (Originally happened on Netflix and I put it down to compression or network issues but it then did it from other sources). I've turned down the Gradation, and it has stopped. Perhaps a change to the algorithm it uses?!

I've noticed some vertical banding on my new TV. Very annoying

Running various test patterns it is clearly the darker grey slides that show the issue (85%, 90% and 95%)

It's also noticeable when watching darker content, both HDR and SDR.

Below shows 95% grey test pattern
