LG OLED 2023 Thread - A3, B3, C3, G3

WebOS 24 update OTA has now started rolling out to C3 and G3, although some seem to be having issues getting the update back as available if they don't accept it when the first popup window appears announcing its availability. Version number is: 23.20.50

Mine updated to the latest (pre 24) the other day and rebooted. But not getting the update for webos24 yet. I guess I just wait and see. I have automatic updates on.

Yeah, ran the pixel refresh 3 times. Band still clearly visible on dark scenes.

After weeks of back and forth with LG they have accepted the TV as faulty, and after 3 attempted repairs they have approved a new replacement or full refund.

I asked for a replacement but it seems there are no longer any 83" C3s in stock :(. So they have officered a full refund.

If I accept the refund, I have to try and find a replacement, and finding anything anywhere near as good as this for the £2,792.25 I paid just isn't going to be possible.

Not sure what to do for the best. I have asked if there are any other potential solutions. i.e. me upgrading a C4, G4 etc at a cost or a partial refund and I keep this 'faulty' TV.

All a tad frustrating.

Final update.

They couldn't offer any other solution other than a full refund, so I accepted that. From me accepting their offer of a full refund it took LG over 2 weeks for them to send the esign doc to formally except their offer of a full refund. I signed this straight away and the courier was booked in for 10 days later to collect the TV. I was told the courier would bring all the relevant packaging as I made it clear I didn't have it anymore.

I called the courier to confirm as the text they sent said they were delivering a TV not collecting one. They confirmed they were actually booked in to collect, but they have nothing to say they need to bring packaging for the TV. I mentioned this to LG and they said 'The SMS you received is them "delivering" the packaging and then at the same time collecting the unit from you.'

The couriers turned up on the 25th November as planned. When they arrived I asked if they had the packaging as they said no, they were only here to collect a TV. I tried to explain that I had spoken to both LG and the courier making sure that packing was to be sent. One of the delivery drivers called their manager but they said they had no instruction to bring any packaging.

I had tried my best to protect the TV with what I had. I put the screen protector off the new TV I bought on it and covered it with the giant plastic bag off the new TV as well. The delivery guys also wrapped some bubble wrap round it and then some blankets. I was still a little worried that this very expensive TV isn’t as well protected as it should be, but the delivery people said once its in the van, if anything happens to it then its their fault.

That said, I took pictures of the TV before going onto the van and in the van just to make sure I have proof that there was no damage when it left my house. They didn’t leave me with any paperwork although they did make me sign an iPad form.

I kept emailing LG to confirm it had been received OK, finally on the 2nd December they said they can confirm the TV was received, and they will now process the payment, but that can take 28 days!.

Well after 3 attempted repairs, god knows how many phone calls and emails I received the money for the refund this morning.

I logged the case for the faulty TV on the 8th of August. Over 4 months from start to finish. It really shouldn't take that long to resolve an issue with a clearly defective TV. And this is with me chasing at every stage.

After having LG TVs for the last 10 years I wont be buying another one.

Wouldn't be surprised all TV brands have same level of customer support, as you're dealing with the TV makers themselves not the retail stores, typically retail stores if they had the same level of support years ago you'd have got this sorted within a week.

I have same issues with other TV brands, computer parts etc, since you're not dealing with the shop anymore. One place wanted me to send an item to poland, at my expense and only once it arrives (without damage) and once inspected, if faulty they would refund me shipping and re-arrange repair/replace.

Did the banding at least differ between panels? It's an issue with the panel so a new panel should have at least looked different, slightly anyway. As for fixing it; that's a tough one - yours is somewhat bad (though I've seen much worse), however near black grey banding (also known as dirty screen effect) on LG panels is extremely common on all sizes from 65 inches and up, where as all sizes from 55 inches and down have less or zero banding, I don't know why large OLED panels are more affected but it's a well known issue.

I'm glad you have received a refund because it's extremely likely that any replacement you receive will do exactly the same thing unless you switch to the 55 inch size, and this goes for all LG OLED TVs, from the C4 all the way to the latest C4, they are all potentially affected and the chance of getting a panel with banding is extremely high from 65 inches and up and I suspect the larger you go up in size the more common the banding gets but I don't have any data for this

Unfortunately LG OLED is not alone in this issue, it can happen on QD OLED as well it also happens on LCD VA panels

The banding did differ a bit, but it was still terrible

After I got 2 duff ones I started looking into online and couldn't believe how common it was on the bigger sets. I was all set to pull the pin and order the G4 but then found people reporting banding on them as well.

When watching bright content I couldn't notice a thing. But darker content, it was clear to see. Unacceptably on any TV let alone one costing as much as it did.

I suppose I shouldn’t really ask if I don’t see something but how do you test for banding as above?

Black, white, gray, R, G B, CMYK test screens, youtube casting or PC source full screen will do, or could use test disc.

One panel had large black blotch on grayscale screen, really noticeable on dark scenes. Kinda like IPS glow in reverse, that the blotch was darker not brighter.

I just bought the B4, of which they were two different codes. From some quick reading, one has a different bezel. But mostly just different codes for countries or specific resellers - the exact same TV otherwise. Unsure on the C though.
