LG OLED 2024 thread - A4, B4, C4, G4

My current B7 has a few struggles, Disney+ used to be fine but over the past year it's become quite sluggish and even occasionally hitches during playback, the Plex app feels very slow lately and the Amazon Prime app isn't too smooth either though it's fine when actually watching something. There are a few newer apps it hasn't received too like Paramount+, and the AppleTV app only lets you watch the subscription content, you can't buy/rent anything.

That being said, for a 2017 model it's pretty good that both the TV and the existing apps are kept up to date and is one of the reasons I wanted to stick with LG as they seem committed to WebOS.

I'm going to be in the market for a new 55" TV. Had a 65" B8 (I think it was manufactured in 2017). I've moved so had to get rid of it.

I first had the TV opposite a window and within an hour I had completely rearranged by room to put the window behind the TV because reflections made it unwatchable.

Where I'm living now the TV will have to be at a right angle to the window so light will be coming in.

Is the reflection coating any better on newer LG OLEDs? Or will I have to go for a non-OLED panel?

Thanks, this is a possibility, I'd have to swing it with the Mrs though (which may not be possible). It's taken enough to persuade her that a 55" TV isn't too big. Haha.

Are the TVs any better at dealing with sun light reflections these days though?

Samsung S95D has the best Anti glare.

Got my G4 a week ago, very impressed so far. I've barely had to tweak any settings to get it looking good, and compared to my B7 which was still a great TV in its own right, the image clarity and brightness is next-level.

Only thing I don't like is the new UI, my B7 had the nice, simple, customisable Home bar along the bottom of the screen whereas this one has a fullscreen affair which doesn't let you add shortcuts to inputs anywhere. It is very, very quick though. Oh, and the remote is a bit naff for LG's flagship model, the lack of media playback controls continues to baffle me.

If its like the C9 you can choose between old and new one?#

General, additional settings, home settings, home screen style

I didn't like the new menu system
Nope, don't have that option unfortunately! I believe the G4 has the newest WebOS software so my menus look different to yours.

The new style Home screen was added to 2019 TVs earlier this year in an update. That's why you can switch it to the classic style. I expect any 2021 onwards TVs won't have it as that's when they got the new UI.

Its the screen that the TV starts up on. Can be home, digital, an input, etc.
Yup, lets you choose between the Home screen or the last used input.

I did however discover that there's a way to get rid of the "no signal" fullscreen image by pressing the Mute button three times to bring up a hidden menu, so that's one less niggle to deal with.

It also turns out that the reason the G4 remote is naff is because the M4 (the one with the wireless input box) gets the fancy premium remote.

What's naff? Just the lack of NFC?
I'm just not a fan of it, I keep pressing the Home button instead of Vol - because they're so close together and difficult to tell apart from feel alone, and the lack of media controls is a weird omission; I'd rather have those than the numerical keys. I guess getting money from the streaming services l was more important as it's got half a dozen shortcut buttons for those.

It's a great TV but the competing models from other Sony and Samsung come with better remotes. I'm sure I'll get over it though. :)

If you have several devices, IR, worth getting a decent programmable remote control. Mine controls three rooms, and 10 devices with all the hidden behind scenes macros custom pages etc, and don't have to learn by feel of each seperate remote, can remove commands you don't use, put the ones you do in common places etc.
