LG OLED 2024 thread - A4, B4, C4, G4

If you have several devices, IR, worth getting a decent programmable remote control. Mine controls three rooms, and 10 devices with all the hidden behind scenes macros custom pages etc, and don't have to learn by feel of each seperate remote, can remove commands you don't use, put the ones you do in common places etc.
I do have a basic Logitech Harmony from yonks ago in a box somewhere funnily enough it, might be time to see if it still works.

I'm just not a fan of it, I keep pressing the Home button instead of Vol - because they're so close together and difficult to tell apart from feel alone, and the lack of media controls is a weird omission; I'd rather have those than the numerical keys. I guess getting money from the streaming services l was more important as it's got half a dozen shortcut buttons for those.

It's a great TV but the competing models from other Sony and Samsung come with better remotes. I'm sure I'll get over it though. :)
Oh, I just googled - never seen that premium remote before! That's pretty rare indeed it seems.

Personally I stick with the normal candy bar remote most of the time. It just works.

First rumors for 2025 models

Looks like LG is using a new panel with an additional layer for 2025, however it may only be the G5 that uses it and not the C5. This new panel is more efficient and brighter - LG says to expect 25% higher brightness over the G4 and 20% lower power consumption.

The G5 has been certified in Hong Kong and the official power tests show the G5 55inch model uses 132 watts, compared to 161 watts that the G4 can use, a 21% improvement. There is little change in power consumption from the C4 to C5, which may suggest no significant tangible change in technology for the C series in 2025.

Don't yet know if the G5 will be using HDMI 2.2, or if its still 2.1 and also whether the refresh rate is now 240hz

Its a shame the G series wont do a 42" for gaming. I'll have to keep the 77" G4 going for at least 5 years or the missus will kill me.

I appreciate you guys can’t see into the future, but as a general opinion, do you think the 65 inch C4 will drop any further than it’s current £1499 price before the new models are released?

It's been as low as £1100 mark but need to be quick. It will drop but think it will be March/April time.

Check out the reviews of the B4, just picked the 65 up for £930

Thanks, but I have changed my mind anyway. Waspy’s amazing photo of his G4 has convinced me that that’s the TV I want. Got the new TV bug so didn’t want to wait, so I’ve just dropped £2199 on the wall mount version at SSAV. They seem a reputable company to buy from. Should get it within a few days.

Now just got to hope I can get by on one kidney

My current OLED, which is one of the flagship 2015 LGs was from SSAV. It was a display model and still came with 5 year warranty, if I bought it that weekend as the warranty offer was running out. They were great to deal with.

I am looking at upgrading to a 77" G4, but decided to wait a bit and see if they come down when the G5 comes out.

The 83" B4 is down to £2351 on LG's own site going by HUKD.

Looks to be an offer stack with 10% for new members and BLC referral thing maybe.

My C4 just arrived, decent upgrade from old C9. Only thing that will take time to get use to is home screen where it shows all the apps and live TV. Wish it was less busy.

In the settings you can turn off the promo/ad stuff, and I think declining all but the main User Agreements also disables some of the bloat. You can also remove some of the superfluous buttons like Sports etc by editing the Homescreen itself, but even after all that I'm not a huge fan of it compared to the older bar along the bottom of the screen.

Ah thank you , will reset to factory settings and try and see all those user agreements settings.

You can decline them in the settings without resetting if that's easier. If you're going to use the voice commands etc then you'll need to accept those specific ones but personally I declined them.

Got our C4 yesterday - 55"

Have to say, very impressed - put some UHD material via BBC iPlayer Planet Earth and the picture is truly superb, and went through some of the 4k film clips you can look on youtube and its such a step up compared to our previous unit.

Gripes (minor!)

- Interface is "busy" to say the least - but, it is at least fast and quick to navigate between menus etc which is a massive change from our old Philips unit which was slow, and you do have the input button on the remote to quickly switch between sources.

- Just need to tweak a few bits, was having a fight against our google tv as the magic remote was trying to operate the one on a different tv upstairs.

- One minor annoyance is when using a set-top box the remote guide button brings up the lg iptv channels rather then the set top box guide, you can still get to the guide using the ... button and getting to it there - but if that was mapped properly, or you had the option to select which guide you wanted to map that would be preferable!

Its definitely the best TV we've ever purchased and wouldn't hesitate recommending.

Got our 48 b4 on Thursday just set it up and I’m pretty impressed. Picture not quite as good as our 55g3 but the menus etc feel more snappy

I've switched off loads of crap as recommended on here, looks a bit better now.
On positive side have to say upscaling is superb compared to my old C9, which wasn't bad either.
That's interesting, I run a TV test lab and always feel most TVs upscale terribly. But most LGs I test do a really good job of making even broadcast SD channels look watchable. I'd like to see what better looks like!
