LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

Just tried some of my 2.35.1 HD-DVD's unfortunately they do not fill the screen at all they are hard coded to only 1920 x 1080 refuse to play stretched even when ripped out as files will not play due to the HDCP on them

I forgot about HD-DVD's. Have you tried setting the monitor to one of it's Cinema modes in the OSD?
Yep its the actual content the way its mastered. Arcsoft Total Media Theatre 5 will play Blurays full screen zoomed in its the only player which will do this for the actual disc otherwise you need to rip the disc then master in MP4/MKV as those will play fullscreen in Windows Media Player with no other changes just fine.

But HD-DVD's do not want to play fullscreen only bordered 1920x1080 I am looking into it now but looks like I have to re-buy a bunch of my favorite HD-DVD's for the Bluray version as HD-DVD seems to be a lot of hassle to even play now.

Not tried for a while all the discs are refusing to play @ 2560x1080 at all unless ripped to HD its more Hollywood DRM BS  I only own about 50 x HD-DVDs as I bought those when it came out in 2007 before BD now I get penalised for this as the discs will not play due to HDCP scheme so they all need decrypting which is a time consuming task :( to play content you legally own & paid a premium for as an early adopter

Ok an update on HD-DVD's.

You need to decrypt the discs with the full version of AnyDVD HD to remove the HDCP otherwise they will not play above 1920x1080 due to the DRM :( dumb or what but there you go Hollywood DRM at its finest

Ugh, what a hassle to watch something you legitimately bought.
Its pathetic Hollywood DRM because unless you decrypt the HD-DVDs the user restricted operations part of HDCP prevents you resizing the image beyond 1920x1080  how stupid is that just to resize to fill 21:9 you have to decrypt the disc :(

And this is one reason why people download BluRay mkvs!
Do not blame them but the quality is not the same though ;) if your a picky viewer & want max quality disc is still better unless its a 1:1 mkv ;)

I have about 250 Blurays & another 50 HD-DVD's all bought brand new so I spent a lot of money (excluding the 400 or so DVD's I imported from USA when they first came out & UK was 2 years behind). That has to be close to £10k or so excluding the 300 Laserdiscs I bought in the 1990s which is another £10k

So I have supported them a lot but I get defeated by Region Locks & or HDCP DRM despite owning the physical disc  so there goes another £60 on a 2 year AnyDVD-HD licence :(

if 21:9 displays were around at the time then i dare say it wouldnt have been an issue. Anyway, doesnt anydvd strip the hdcp on the fly?
Yeah you need the full version though €79.00 for a 2 year licence minus 20% if you buy when they are running their monthly discount window. €109 for a lifetime licence.

But lifetime licence is risky now as DVD Fab Passkey in USA are now banned from selling a product which decrypts Blurays to US customers so its only a matter of time before they try to do the same to AnyDVD HD globally so for that alone I would not want to pay for a lifetime licence

As requested...

One slightly damaged screen.

That passed LG QA  @ the manufacturing stage what you moaning about ;) Cannot believe they would even send this out to you it must have been dropped by the driver sometimes they pull stuff out to have a look & drop things :(

Not been dropped box is OK.
Trust me sometimes drivers take stuff out of boxes then drop it ;) happened to me with a monitor I RMAed a few years ago it was so well packaged it could not possibly have been damaged in transit then the etailor reported it was delivered smashed to pieces like yours :( it gets dropped by LG before putting in a box then transit causes the cracks to spread!

Either way its ridiculous LG would send this to you :(

@mrh2019 - who did send you that monitor, was it LG as noted above or was it OC as you I see you mention...?

Is there any indication from the box and labels that it has traveled the world, since it only arrived to you with a two pin plug...? It could suggest that it was not originally intended for the UK market.

My first LG monitor from OC had DPD SWAPIT tape over it and LG confirmed that it was a second user unit when they ran the serial number and saw photos of it.
