LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

The free gift? It is the LG Calibration unit:

Damn, I was right for once!

Glad to see it is finally over for you mate!

Now get the pics f the new one up :)

I'll update the pic later in the evening when outsde light levels are lower so the photo is the same as the one I posted of my repaired monitor earlier, too many reflections from even closed blinds as light leaking through the edges!

But... So far seems good. There is a very small amount of bleed/glow on the lower left corner and even smaller on the lower right. Combined it's less than the lower left corner patch of my originally repaired monitor (comparison below) I'd say but need to check in darkness to know by just how much.

New one calibrated fine too:

I think I will keep the new one and sell the old one. While the bleed is acceptable to most people by the looks of it I'm just deciding on if I should send it back for re-repair now or just sell it and bundle the calibrator along with it. I'm happy with the new one. Minimal bleed, minimal IPS glow.

Edit*
Oh yeah, for what it's worth, my original was of course an April manufactured one. This new one was made in July.

I would be happy with that as well. Hopefully this one won't develop any problems!

I really need to get round to sanding the glossy plastic away on my 29um65, just looks so cheap and tacky compared to the brushed finish.

Yup just mask out the surrounding area so you don't scratch anything else and you'll be good :D I used a black Tesco scouring pad though which takes longer but has more control over the final finish. I like a factory finish look!

Congrats Mrk! It finally turned out okay! I'm jelly, how amazingly black that monitor is when on :O

Pity you didn't check the LG Calibrater. I'm half tempted to pick on up to try.

They finally did right by you. ^_^

But no word from LG UK yet and no sign of my shipping refund! I called today and apparently it's with their finance team... Meh.

I'm glad this is sorted now though. There is still IPS glow as you move around but as always nobody expects no glow on an IPS but yes it's nice and uniform

I'm sure the LG Calibrator will get good results, think it only works with the LG software though hence why there's little info on it online, makes sense I guess... Also explains the price! The box comes with a disc but that only contains the manual so this further confirms it only working with the LG True Color Finder software.

LG UK being the weak point it seems.

I think you're right on the LG one only working with their monitors and software, looking online I can't get any reviews on the calibrator besides that singular rain forrest one. He most likely dealt with LG UK as well. :p

I wasn't even aware that LG had a calibrator till mrk's post!

TBH quite tempted to try one out as well, especially given the price, can't justify £100+ on the others but for that sort of price, I don't mind (as long as it does produce a good result)

Although unsure just how much better it would make the monitor look... I have calibrated mine by my own eyes using those calibration test images and it looks pretty much spot on (at least to me)

Shall be nipping up to tesco later then! :D

Knowing me and my luck, I will end up scratching the screen... :o

:p

There is a visible difference between un-calibrated and merely OSD adjusted to calibrated, most especially in grey tones. Remember the probe is reading the shadow tones as well and putting the measurements into the LUT so darker shades are displayed correctly and with nice detail.

I will do a little review of the LG calibrator later on and will post the video up. I'll calibrate the monitor as is right now which allows me to flick between before/after so the before part will be the calibration with the i1 Display Pro and after will be the one with the LG unit.

If anything it will help other LG owners decide on if they want to plump for the i1 or buy the cheaper LG one. One being only usable on LG monitors of course :p

Looking forward to it.

I agree on OSD calibration though, plus your eyes can lie. Especially if you're use to Tungsten lighting which completely messes up your eyes for proper whites.

Cool, look forward to the review :)

I'd be so happy if mine looked like that lol. Sent mine back to ocuk today. They were supposed to collect it yesterday but dpd neve turned up. Hopefully the replacement monitor is much better or il be sending mine off to lg to repair too.

I will say this though.. When I calibrated mine it did look stunning so I would say if your spending so much on this monitor and with the built in Lut it really is worth calibrating or just wait for the aoc model.

New screen looks great to me, Heinz did well!

Nice little calibration unit also, could do with one of them for mine so I don't have to take the i1 Display Pro out to Florida ;)
