LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

That's my thinking, a lot less stressful on gfx power for sacrificing the res BUT the 3440*1440 looks extremely sweet AND is again a power less stressful than 4k would be!! (4.95 million pixels to push vs 8.3)

Let's face it, the UM95 is a monitor for 4-5 years easy, and I don't want to regret getting a lower res version for the sake of a bit of a saving now. Decisions decisions....

Thank you for the pic Robbie, it helped to sway me to spend more money :p

Will probably wait now til their's a bit of competition around (Dell etc) and to iron out any possible bugs with the tech. Ultrawide is my next near-future purchase for sure

My 30" will last me a touch longer (we're celebrating our 3.5 year anniversary, I think we'll split by our 4th :D)

21:9 is the future! It was funny a year ago people bitching about them and now everyone wants one lol

I think it was mostly because no 21:9 screens existed a year ago with 1440 vertical resolution making it not very useful for everyday things like editing,, browsing and so on.

That's all changed now though.

Unfortunately I don't think I can as I didn't realise the nature of monitor LUT until after the fact :o

The LG software does have a before/after thing at the end but you only see that after a calibration has finished and since it saves the settings to the monitor directly I don't know what other settings have been adjusted to get the calibrated result.

All I can say is what I remember seeing, that the colour was warm out of the box and that was largely due to all the RGB sliders being set at 50%. I don't know what the factory calibration chart that comes with it is for in this case because the result on the chart was for D65, the colours I was seeing out of the box certainly were not D65!

Post calibration though it was virtually dead on D65 and my desired luminance. (7th pic above).

It might have been because it's sat in front of a bright blue wall ;)

Ditto, 1080 vertical was the one thing holding me back until now.

Has anyone who orderd the 34UM95 from OcUK got an updated ETA? The product page now says overdue and I'm wondering whether the expectation is for a larger first batch this week, or if we're in for a longer wait.

Not sure. They said it was en-route when I asked them on Friday.

Wish we had some sort of update. 'Overdue' is not an ETA - it's either in stock or it isn't and if not then give us a date.

It's not an eta but to be fair to overclockers they probably don't know where they are just now. I'm sure we'll get an update later.

Hi there

First ten arrived today and will ship out later/tomorrow.

Large batch which will cover all orders will hopefully arrive next week. :)

Cheers for the update Gibbo. Are you saying that the batch coming in next week will satisfy just the pre-orders? If so there would need to be a subsequent order for you to actually have stock?

I can imagine these being quite popular and thus remaining on the 'pre-order' status for a little while until LG get their production upto par, but I am just speculating :)

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be in the first 10, I took awhile to make up my mind on the pre-order.

Congrats kael13 - please post some photos and impressions when you get your monitor as it's likely to be one of the first UK stock ones so would be good to hear if your one is perfect (or near enough) with regards to backlight bleed, etc.

3 questions:

1) how can so many people justify £700 on a monitor (when you seemingly have relatively recent one's already)!

2) surely with all the 4k monitors filtering through, this is rubbish comparatively?

3) can I run one on a 285 GTX? :o Guessing not... Which is ridiculous!

Lightpack arrived today and guess what, it's a bit naff TBH.

1: The software in reactive mode uses 15% CPU and captures screen sctivity at around 15-20fps so windows stutter about.

2: One of the 10 strips was DOA.

I'm sending it back for a refund.

Will just buy a cheap 2nd pure white LED strip to put at the bottom of the screen and complete the back lighting instead.

1). Some people work hard for their money and appreciate good technology when they see it. For others it's part of their working lives to have decent screen real estate (eg video editors, graphic designers and the like).

2). Comparatively speaking that maybe the case but realistically for those that intend to game on a 4k monitor, they need some serious graphics power to get the most out of it. 4k is still in its infancy when it comes to gaming so rest of market hasn't really caught up with this yet. This LG monitor fits the bill nicely because although it's not quite 4k it's in keeping with current graphics cards and is still an improvement on all those upgrading from 1080p.

3). If you want respectable fps - definitely not!

1) My monitor's 5 y old - still going strong but until this LG totally dies I wouldn't buy any monitor to upgrade ( will go to projector next )

2) Again I don't have the GPU grunt to run a 4K monitor nor am I massive gamer. Therefore for me consuming movies in 21:9 is what I am excited about

3) Fingers crossed my 7870 2GB will run it. If not might buy a 270x and crossfire or buy a 2nd hand 280x but as you mentioned -already spent a small fortune on monitor.
