Lga 1700 coolers

Yep, not many air coolers gonna fit on that surely.

Makes me wonder why the M2 heatsinks on z690 are massive and why RAM needs active cooling.

Does this men pcie5 SSD's are expected to run even hotter than gen 4 and same for DDR5?

The only saving grace for this particular board that 99% of people who buy the Gigabyte Extreme would not even consider air cooling, most would be water cooling.

DDR5 Will run considerably hotter as the power control is on DIMM now rather than the board so a good bit of additional heat to shed though I don't think we need to be going back to the old HyperX ram fans

With DD5 the last thing you want is an air CPU cooler as you're gonna be pulling the hot air from the RAM sticks right into the CPU cooler fins anyway. So kinda defeats the objective of cooling the CPU when fast DDR5 is used due to the above mentioned power ICs being on the RAM modules themselves.

Lots of little "issues" cropping up now with this new CPU launch. As @mrk noted, air coolers will be getting RAM heat being sucked in by the air cooler fans now as well, if you can even fit an air cooler into that Gigabyte board. The reviews will be interesting to read on 4th. Hopefully nobody buys before then as you should really see how it performs first before spending a grand on a new setup.

I'll admit I have pre ordered (12700KF, Asus P D4). But we have a stable returns policy so it's no big issue cancelling an order really. I am confident things will be fine with AIO coolers though, hence why I added the Arctic Freezer II to my order too as it has the additional VRM cooling fan built into the block :p

AIO will be fine there is more than enough space for CPU blocks. After using an AIO it can be a shock to see a Noctua D15 in person, air coolers have truely become massive beasts that block half the motherboard from view

Is there a list off current compatible AIO's that don't need an additional part, I'm stuck on a Corsair H150i and it looks like there planning for socket 1700 it just a thought in the shower atm god knows when they'll become available.

So 20 years after their introduction the heatsinks on ram sticks will finally have a practical application!

They've been needed for some time now.

It depends on the temp range for the memory modules. A lot of Samsung's stuff becomes unstable over 50c and many DDR4 kits would be well over that without a heatsink.

What we need is memory modules that sustain signal strength at high heat loads.
