Like a Golf..

The Toledo seemed to get a shedload more kit.

not necessarily, you can get leons with all those options too.

i have everything except sat nav and electric seats as i have recaros
eg. heated leather seats, cruise, climate, electric folders mirrors, sunroof, etc

it's just that very high spec isn't very common as speccing these cars up would have taken you well over £20k 8 years ago

A friend of mine has an E36 328 Coupe for sale, selling due to upgrading to an E46 M3. It has something like 180K miles on the clock, but had the Alusil replacement at ~70K - It also looks like its had a blow over at some point, the paint is near mint.

Certainly a good, solid car - I think he was after well under £2k for it.

If I could sell the bloody Yaris, I'd buy it myself :(

What about the £1500 PAS pump?

The high spec Toledos seem to be significantly cheaper than the Leon alternative though. Did the Leon get the V5?
much like boras are usually cheaper than equivalent golfs

no, the leon didn't get the V5
and the toledo didn't get the 210 and 225 1.8T

Speaking of Boras, is that something worth looking at if she's used to a Mondeo sized car? Could be more comfortable for example.

fox can only choose from cars which are local, and there probably aren't many boras.
so really he has to see what's available locally and go from there
not point listing cars which are too far

i linked to a 9-3 earlier. could be worth a punt
as are those preludes. there seem to be quite a few in devon

I'd suggest the opposite.

Its irrelevant on a 3 year old £20k+ car as no major parts are going to malfunction or need replacing.

Whereas its very relevant on a £2k 170k E36 because its going to need £££s to stop it from disintegrating. Hate to think what it will have cost after another 3 years....

Don't see why not assuming the one you got was a good one. Chap I work with has an E36 323 coupe which has about 170K on the clock and its perfectly acceptable (although the lemon leather interior isn't to everyones tastes!)

However after re-reading the first post, given that a quick deal needs to be done, going sensible with the car choice would be more appropriate.

Because an e36 is 3 generations old maybe?

It's an old car that visually is showing it's age now days, the e46 replaced it, had a facelift, then the e90 replaced that and has had a facelift and in comparison to the e46 it's a very blocky car, she won't like it and the people in her office will no doubt tell her she has a shabby car.

Looks aside, the 328i is not a car she'd want, you get 30mpg if you're lucky, normally around 28mpg, but you can easily see as low as 19mpg on a run/in traffic.

Reliability in the 328i is not a good one either, the engine is badly designed which means it can easily break and is not economical to repair. All service, repair and parts costs are still in line with when they were new so if something goes wrong on it (which it likely would) it'd cost her a fortune to get it fixed.

The better engine is the 325i but they command a premium and are older again as the last ones were made in 1995.

The only BMW I'd point her at is the e46 318i as it looks reasonably new and won't cost anywhere near as much to maintain as the e36...but as Fox has said, there aren't any at the right price locally.

You keep slagging the 328i and I'm not sure why. The engine is not badly designed at all and I dont know where you get this idea that the 325i is betterm from.

Nikasil issue and alu block/head meaning if you do what I did, the engine is as good as scrap, 325 has a steel block.

Don't get me wrong, if I could get another 328i I would, although I'd probably head out looking for a 325i or 328i instead of 328i only.

Just in the context of what you're after, it really is completely the wrong car.

I don't keep slagging it, I keep slagging MY 328i. ;)

How about;

This 318 (I'm guessing that's the V plate one you were on about earlier) or
this one (would need haggling on price) ?

To be honest, this task is always almost impossible. When I have been hunting for cars in Devon it's been a right pain to find anything worthwhile, and then getting to it is just as annoying.

I won't be buying a car with no history, don't worry about that :p

:D

In all seriousness, in a thread full of Mondeos, Accords & Toledos for a girl, is a local GTV with fsh such a bad shout?

How you've managed this long without Phate and AGW pimping Longbridge roadsters I don't know... :D

What about a Puma?
