Lila Connect - VX Fibre 1gig - Stoke on Trent

Just got this installed. Is the hub any good or should I be looking for third party one. I use for gaming and maybe bit of oculus VR.
How do I know if I got my static Ip which I'm paying extra.
Cant wait to ring Virgin and tell them to do one though if this turns out alright.
The router should be ok for general use. Think of it as standard ISP router. I personally use my own (RT-AC86U) as it can do other things with it. Static IP should be enabled straight away if you purchased this with them.

Chell not due for installation untill May - July 2023 ... anyone manage get deal with Virgin?

I don't need TV or a landline so I rang retentions and got through to an English bloke.
I explained I didn't want TV or Landline, explained that Lila will connect me in August (maybe) for £30 a month for 1 gig so can you compete? - the best he could do is £37 for 350 meg which is a normal offer anyway.
I asked if he could do any better because I've been with Virgin from the beginning when it was Cable & Wireless, NTL and now Virgin but he wouldn't budge.
I am tempted at that price because my 350 meg is awesome and (touch wood) I've had zero problems in all those years.

Maybe 350mbits could be better if that speed is sufficient, ping is good or better than Lila with pre-knowledge of no line issues.
Benefit of Lila may just be £7 less per month... I'd be tempted see what ping other people in the street get after it's been running a while.
It sounds a reasonable response from Virgin or maybe after a notice to quit their retentions could offer a better deal.

For me and my wife 350 meg is more than adequate and stuff downloads very quickly, I don't play online games and the only thing I upload are pictures and at the moment Love Island to my daughter in Costa Rica :)
Like I say I've never had a problem with Virgin (touch wood) in all the years when it started and a half meg download :)
£37 sounds do-able for something I know that has been solid however apparently I'm a month away so it wouldn't harm to try Lila for a month before making a decision.

TBH I think 1Gbit Internet is way overkill for most people unless regularly downloading huge amounts.
A typical 40mbit line will offer 17mbit upload, so if Lila offer a lot more than that would be nice if you need it. Although, it depends what speed the other party can download at, unless a cloud is used which would may only benefit yourself.
I think beyond a certain download speed, say 40-100mbits then ping maybe more noticeable for the average user, especially if using a VPN as that will add more latency. A single 4K Netflix stream may only require 15mbits or YouTube VP9 may need a little more.
With working at home on a remote server which only needs a couple mbits I notice ping a lot more, especially if I forget to turn off the VPN. With TalkTalk 40-55mbit line I get 15ping which is probably average, but had 5ping last year so it probably depends which port I've been plugged into at the CAD box or exchange.

I've been with virgin since NTL and agree no issues.

Lila do offer great up load speeds too, which virgin just aren't matching.

Can you try Lila for just a month, anyone gone through T&C, I had a feeling once connected you stuck with £10 month line rental, even if not paying for service (as they offer the one of fee of £600 for connecting)

After all the grief trying to cancel I finally did it with Virgin after 3 days and about 12 hours total on the phone, plus a recorded letter via the post office. After that I got a random call from Virgin offering to match Lila 1GB for 30 quid a month. I told them to jog on, If you can do that , you should have in the first place.

Telling Virgin where to go may make your ego feel good but if Virgin offer 1Gbit for £30 & you know beforehand the service will be good then that's the logical option.

I did not get that offer through the so called"cancelations dept" it was a direct call to me after I gone through the process of cancelling the following day, like a last resort. If you want that type of offer then you will have to take it as far as me because on the standard calls I was offered a few quid off like everyone else, nothing more.
Thing is I got 3 months free with Lila and waited for the instalation before deciding to cancel it as the Lila seems to do the job well enough. It has brought my gaming pings down which I was hoping for. I Will stick with Lila for now, it a few quid cheaper for a lot more speed aqnd does the job.

What postcode are you in?

Rang Virgin 30 minutes ago, mentioned Lila but the guy wouldn't budge from £58 for 1gb.
He knew Virgin could be buried unless they offered deals but it isn't his department and doesn't know what department to send me to.
I told him that one bloke cancelled and then a day later they rang offering the deal and he said it was nothing to do with him but that's the best you could hope for.
He suggested that when I had a date for a Lila connection to ring Virgin and say I want switching off the day after and that way it might trigger a Virgin deal.

I just had my 1Gb up and down service installed today. It took the team about 40 minutes with laying the cable.
£29.99 a month, but because they delayed and I had to keep paying Virgin in the meantime, they're waving the £9.99 standing charge for six months, so I'm only paying £20 :)
Very happy. Moreso for being able to say bog off to Virgin.

Yeah pop that cherry, no more relying on Virgin. Competition is good for all.
I've been paying £40/m for 40mbits while out of contract since last Sep in the hopes Lilo stop lying on the 3yr old cables out front... Hopefully I get same deal
