Liquid Art: From Mini P180 to infinity...

well looking at the msata ssd's that ocuk offer the crucial m4 msata can do 500mbs read so it should be a decent speed for the os. i wonder if you could raid 2 msata ssds on the little adaptor, wonder what performance that would get?

Good question, i would love to know this too! If it's doable i would get 2 and raid them on that thing.

Shame they look so ugly though lol but i suppose when they're slotted in you can't really see the SSD's

the msata connection is 3gbs/sataII and not 6gbs

how this would impact performance i dont know

though would 2 ssd's with max 500mbs read each even be able to reach 3gbs? it would only get to 1gbps surely? except for burst speed

on SSD's it can be massive in terms of the SSD not being able to reach its maximum speed but that depends if the SSD is sata 3 or 6. Im not even sure if they do Msata SSD's in 6gbs lol

apparently the crucial m4 msata ssd's are
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-024-CR&groupid=701&catid=2104&subcat=2365

lists it as "- Interface: SATA 6Gb/s (SATA III)"

if 2 of these could be set to raid on a msata connection then it could give a very powerful and compact setup.

my knowledge of raid stops at being able to spell it though

Dont worry you're not the only one, im clueless when it comes to any type or raid or networking. Just not my field of expertise!

Start a thread on general hardware section and ask to see if anyone knows if its possible. I had a look on google but can't seem to find much.

Okay it does work, just read that on an alienware forum how they did it using msata ssd's in raid 0!

ahhhhh laaame i was wrong, the adapter supplied with our board is a mini pcie and msata combo so you can't fit 2 msata ssd's on it. Not sure if you can raid a larger ssd with a msata ssd though.

Is it worthwhile if the connection is only 3GB/s ?

Again - my knowledge is limited here.

If you're using it soley as a boot drive and nothing more then yes i would say it would be especially if your case is small and lacks space for a proper mounting of your full size SSD.

i think asus missed a trick here then.

as for if the 3gig a second is worth it id say yea lol.

never mind though, ill go back to dreaming

Would have been nice though, certainly a good investment for some speed increase with raid 0 while saving a whole load of space and cables.

i do think that when i get the money to buy a larger ssd ill go for one of these crucial m4 msata's and make use of the little adaptor. the read speeds are pretty decent and despite being sataII it should hold the ssd up too much,if at all for just an os

can i ask what braid you used for your cables? like what type of braid and what ratio heat shrinks did you use?

i want to braid my cables but i haven't a clue where to start. trust me the details if you cant post them publicly

My 6pin gpu cables are bitfenix pre-braided cables but my 24pin is from some guy on the bay who makes them to order. I can send you the link if you want via trust so we're not breaking any rules.
