Need some major changes in the middle of the park. We got taken apart mainly because there was no-one bossing the midfield for us. We really need someone who isn't afraid to put a boot or 2 in.

Poulson never made a challenge all night, gave me the impression he was worried about getting his kit dirty  Was quite embarassing to watch him really.

Aside from him, Mereiles was terrible (again), Jovanovic was nothing special, and Johnson looked completely out of sorts on the left. He should either have been left out of the team, or played on the right side of the pitch.

But for me, there is absolutely no doubt that the midfield needs sorting, and fast if we are to have any chance of survival. :(

Things really that bad?

Are you really worried about relegation?

I mean, while you're not many point off the relegation places, you're not too far from a top 10 place either.

I know, it's a very close season, but having watched them play a few awful matches recently, I have to say I am more than a little concerned.

I doubt we will end up relegated, but it's going to be very close to the wire if we don't get it together sharpish.

I think Liverpool have the players to be able to put in enough performances to keep them comfortably mid table.

The over all lack of quality this season is going to work for Liverpool, they could easily jump up a few places.

Next 5 games are:

Everton (H)
Wolves (A)
Fulham (H)
Chelsea (A)
Wigan (H)

The way our away form is we will lose the 2 away games, and the home games are with teams around us. they are all turning into 6 pointers and our defense is so bad there is a good chance we will lose some of them. tbh i expect a win, loss and a draw out of the three home games. which will be releagtion form !

If SG wasnt such a fool i think our chances would have been better as he is the only creative spark in midfield.

Remember nobody ever thought Leeds would go down and look what happened to them

Suppose this was Woy's fault / Rafa's fault / Webb's fault?

Full credit to Blackpool, They're doing really well so far this season.

This basically. No Roy to blame now...

Admittedly you can't judge a manager on one game. Kenny's managerial style will take longer to come through. BUT...

You would have thought the players would have shown more spirit now Kenny's back, and shown they want to play for him and the club.

What a sorry bunch.

We need to beg Juve to let us have Aquilani back early. I would suggest offering to give them Poulsen back for free but we'd probably end up having to pay his wages too.

Every senior player we signed this summer has been a disappointment; Cole's the only one who you can make a slight excuse for, given his injury problems.

Jones, Konchesky and Poulsen were totally pointless signings and ****, Meireles is clearly a reasonable player but shouldn't have been needed (had we kept Aquilani) and was overpriced, Jovanovic was signed to give us another attacking option but's **** and Cole's been a massive let down too.

Why did you send him out on loan to Juve?

Was under the impression he was starting to play much better?

The spirit etc was clear to see vs Utd at the weekend. Admittedly we weren't as 'up for it' today but considering most of that side played just a few days earlier where we were down to 10 men for most of the game, it shouldn't be that unexpected.

Indeed he was starting to show us that he was a good player...

others on here will be more informed but i think it had something to do with appearences and paying Roma a lump some of a certain amount as part of the deal bringing him to LFC - dont think it would have been possible with the takeover shenannigans at the time...

He couldn't kick the ball as far as Poulsen or Meireles.

Had we not signed Jones, Konchesky, Poulsen and Meireles and instead stuck with Insua, Aquilani, along with trusting the likes of Shelvey and Gulacsi (our youth keeper), we'd have been ~£25m richer and had a stronger squad imo.

edit: No naan. He did have an appearance clause in his contract but it wasn't a significant sum (£200k iirc) and not enough to make it worthwhile loaning him out and spending £12m to replace him.

I still laugh that you paid £5m for Konchesky. :D I remember when Spurs had him on loan, it was so obvious he wasn't good enough for a top team, and Spurs were used to Ben Thatcher back then!

We didn't just pay £5m for him, we also gave Fulham 2 youngsters too; 1 of which Fulham had a £1m bid rejected last January.

Why did Woy come in and turn Liverpool in to a long ball team?

I was under the impression that Fulham played decent football, now given that Aqua man was back, fit and adopting to the English game I'd of thought he was the type of player you'd have done well with.

I take the point you didn't play well under Woy, but why do you think he felt the need to force route one? Torres can't play like that either? You have good midfielders, play through them.

Sorry to waffle on.

What a sorry bunch.

I'd say Torres is slowly looking more like his old self in the past 2 games. He just needs much better service.

Jury is still out on Lucas imho, although would probably help if he had a good run playing in his natural position.

Skrtel seems to have become a liability over the past few months.

Meireles still needs more time to adapt, as does Maxi.

Kuyt doesn't seem 100% fit yet after his injury, and anyway GJ should be playing on the right wing instead of him. Maybe he's ran his course ?

Stick Babel up top with Torres. Suprised he wasn't used tonight as he did ok at the weekend. Or swap Babel & Kuyt around.

Shelvey, who could become a decent player, isn't the kind of calibre you want coming on when you're trying to win. Maxi would have been a better choice.

Poulsen, N'gog & Jovanovic need moved on.

God help us on Sunday if we play with the same midfield setup...:(

It's a better performance than under Roy but there's no escaping the fact that the squad is thread bare. It doesn't really mater who's fault that is, it needs to be rectified. We're half way through a transfer window and if any club in the prem needs to buy it's Liverpool. There's been no sign of anything turning up and no pledge from the owners. Dose the club have time to develope fresh talent and 'build for the future'. I think not.

Unless you listen to the crap drunkenmaster comes out with about us most Liverpool supporters know Chelsea, United, Arsenal, City and Spurs are way ahead of us.

Seems to be you constantly misquoting ME actually, or being as deluded as usual. I don't think Liverpool are a 5th-7th place side and Liverpool fans are deluded to think they can get anywhere near the top 4.

I think Liverpool were LUCKY to come 7th the way they played last season, I think 9-10th is a pretty solid target(in a normal season with normal spacing of points, not this year) and that Liverpool fans are completely deluded to think the current squad is capable of getting even remotely CLOSE to the top 4, not IN the top 4.

Theres no one in the defence I rate at all, except Reina, whose made quite a lot more mistakes than usual this season(keepers with no confidence in their defence will do that though). You lost your only IN FORM decent midfielder in Mascherano, and in form because he kicks seven shades of **** out of the other team and does it consistantly well. You don't have a form striker and at best, you have one great striker, which would be embarassing for a bottom 3 team let alone a top half table. Arsenal have eleventy billion strikers, Chelsea are playing crap when their two strikers can't hit a barn door, Utd have, 4-5 and a couple on loan having sold some promising youngsters in recent years and their top goalscoring winger/striker.

SO good keeper, rubbish defence, rubbish midfield(as even the good, errm, one player is out of form), and one striker. I think I'm being generous in rating them top half capable to be honest.

Of course, this league is ridiculous, 3 wins from anyone from 10-20th turns a relegation battling team to a Europa battling team, a very short good run of form could have West Ham move into a european slot, its madness.
