Living in University Halls

The TV, but you see no aerial there anyway :p and I was just watching DVDs.

Here is a tip, the tv licence guy cannot enter your room unless you let him. Hell, i slept through it when he came to check our halls.

lol... that really did make me lol

But its not legally that straight forward when you're living in halls. IIRC they are allowed to enter rooms with the permission of the university, not the room tenant.
But most halls warn you well in advance when they will be coming and doing checks, and using their "detector vans". Mine put posters everywhere telling you what date they would be coming.

Technically you have a licence for your room and not a lease, therefore the university can kick you out in an instant anyway. So may be you are right that if they let the TV guy come into the building, they can enter your room. However, in my experience, they never do.

Like I said, i was watching DVDs :p

Yeah right, no student can resist the temptation of ready steady cook :p

They are not admissiable in court, so I wouldn't worry about it. Your halls will get letters regarding TV licence for the first couple of months, and the guy would turn up and check. But then they won't come back until same time next year.
goodgood, You know, you can have a tv in your room, and as long as it isn't hooked up (or looks like it has been) they can't do **** all anyway.

cant go without MOTD thats all :s

If you are staying in on Saturday nights watching MOTD as your priority then you are not doing it right. When i was in brighton, i don't remember watching MOTD, the only TV program i remember watch was Jack and Jill on Ch4 that get shown at 4am on Sunday morning. I check the forum when I get up in between getting shower and breakfast and once at night before bed. The days are packed with random stuff, internet really comes wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy down the list.

Back then sitting on my computer would mean a boring day.

How big is your TV? does it fit into the cupboard aka along with the fridge? :D
It's a 20" samsung video combo, twas my grans, but it's free, so I'll keep it for now ;). Hopefully, either there won't be a tv check at the same time as the room check, or I'll have a damn big cupboard :p.

The room check is usually the first 2 weeks, TV guy comes a litte later.

Do be careful thou, my sister's friend got caught by the TV guy, even thou she only got a warning it was scary as you could get £1000 fine.

Thats rubbish in my opinion. Just because your not out getting wasted and doing stupid dangerous things doesnt make you any less of a person. Each to their own. When ever the internet went down at warwick there would be out cry from everybody.

Who said i was wasted? I was simply not sitting in my room alone, we would either hang out in the beach, camp fire, down the pier, walk down the sea front, playing twister, talking in the kitchen, BBQ at the back....etc...etc.

It's just that there are always people in the kitchen, i would rather go talk then sit in my room. Thou now and again its nice but i rather go chat, hence i check the net morning and before bed.

Some days you feel like doing stuff, some you dont its as simple as that. Just because you like to be proactive all the time doesnt mean that everybody else does.

And i didnt specify being alone did I. When we didnt feel like spending money down the union we would go to somebodys room and watch cheesy movies.

Like i said, each to their own.

True, sometimes i like my own space and just surf the net, its nice. But mostly i was up for talking and hanging out with friends, even if it was just watching neighbours or watch Martin cleaning his mountain bike.

I am still waiting to hear anything about my accomodation, even though I have had my place on the course confirmed. Although I rang the UNI up on Wednesday and they said accomodation allocation takes place after the A level results are out. I am going into mt first year at uni, however, I would like to know if anyone here has experience of trying to get into halls for the second year as well. Is this a hard thing to do. I know it will differ depending on the UNI etc but generally has anyone managed to do this?
