Argh how do you PM on this?! Can't find any option anywhere to PM is it cuz i'm a newish member?
I would post the guys number here but I'm afraid he'll get bombarded with calls lol
I've added you on the friends/contact thing maybe I'll get the PM option if you accept?

There is not PM here unfortunately - you have to set uo your trust account to be able to basically email messages

Is there a way to get my game saves and videos from my ps3 Hdd once its Ylod ? ive tried to fix it, which worked for a whole 2mins  but i really want my game saves for my new ps3 once i get it.

There might be but I searched very hard for a solution and I'm 90% certain that there isn't a way.

I've tried:
(a) copying files from one to another but Windows doesn't recognise the data on the HDD and there's a risk of Windows changing the HDD signature so the PS3 won't accept it (hasn't happened to me but a few on here warned me about it).
(b) switching HDDs from one PS3 to another

The best way is to connect the two PS3's together with a CAT5 crossover cable and your PS3 will ask you if you would like to perform a full backup.

However, that solution will only work if you bring your YLOD PS3 back to life and transfer the data before it YLODs again. Just follow the Gilksys videos that I posted on here.

So, after more than 2 weeks the "fan controller" arrived... a 200k potentiometer attached to two small lengths of wire.. An excellent purchase for $28(!). Two wires must be stripped and soldered - oh, and to be sure you attach to the correct ones, you'll need a multimeter to find the 3.3V feed. So basically exactly what was described with DIY online guides.. super.

This is still an option for manually forcing the fan to a higher speed - and it wouldn't be too hard to connect via a couple of passthrough (t-piece) connector blocks - in the meantime though I've gone and ordered the alternative mod from the other Ebay seller which retains automatic control but boosts power by 40%. This is definitely 'plug and play' and will hopefully turn up this week...

Let us know how you get on after everything has been set up, it'll be interesting to see how low you can keep the internal temperature with the new fan.

@TheKeiron - PM'd you yesterday mate, i hope i managed to do it properly...

Mine went 3 months ago and i was utterly lost as not only my gaming machine is my DVD player as most my stuff has been upgraded to Blu Ray after much searching on the internet and forums and even cosidering getting a new one i noticed a Ad in my local free paper of a guy who does console repairs took it down £40 and had it back the next day and its as good as ever now

If he re-flowed your PS3 then it's a ticking time bomb mate. You'd be best of buying a PS3 Slim and backing up the entire HDD from your zombie PS3 to your slim using a crossover cable.

As trentlad says if it was indeed a reflow then it will go again eventually, no matter how well you treat it this time round, the underlying damage is already there.

But if it wasn't a re-flow then do you know what they did to revive your machine?

@SIR Alan I've just emailed you back sorry about the delay!

I'm still waiting on my PCB back, i spoke to Retronix Thursday and they said they would send it out friday so it should be here today (Monday) I hope it does arrive today I've been itching to play for 2 weeks now!
EDIT: It has arrived today as they said (thank god!) I'll fix up my ps3 and test it tonight

Auto fan controller arrived... looks to be pretty well assembled; it is built on one of those little 'amateur' PCBs - but the wiring and soldering looks sound and all is encased in a big blob from a hot glue gun so insulation is good. The connectors are indeed plug and play (FAN -> Controller PCB -> motherboard).

Will be installing this hopefully on Tuesday evening.

Gutted mate, soo close yet soo far eh? :(. I have a different model to the one where Gilksys done his 6 part fix but when i took apart my 80gb console there were only two ribbon cables and i'm pretty sure they were for the Blu-ray drive and the USB/wireless ports section (bigger one for the blu-ray). Out of interest, why did you send the ribbon cables?

p.s. i sent you another email about a couple small queries, when you have the time, thanks.

I have the 60gb version, after googling the components i deduced the ribbons are for the network adaptor and the card reader, i really hope they havent lost my cables! I didnt send the cables off for any particular reason, first time i sent off my PCB to Retronix the ribbons were still in their places and they sent them back not attached but still with the board, so i figured it didnt matter the second time! apparently i was wrong...

I'll have a look at your mail now mate

Installed the fan controller.. Fan speed changes immediately to become quite fast - this is good in that the exhaust air temperature is significantly reduced. However... the speed does not increase when playing a game - it appears to be fixed at this speed. In addition - I have remote start enabled for remote play on my console; normally when switching the PS3 off, the wifi light would continue to flash and the fan would spin at very slow speed to help the system cool down.

With the mod.. the fan continues to spin at maximum speed when I power the system off! Have sent a message to the ebay seller to see what can be done about this.

I phoned Retronix and they had the ribbon cables thank god! They delivered them and I got them today so i'll complete the ps3 reconstruction and test it tonight

I was just ordering some AS 5 and it reminded me to check back and see how things were with everyones consoles? I'm going to assume that no more posts from Keiron means he's too busy playing lol. If Retronix follow their estimated turn around, maybe this time next week i'll be making up some serious lost gaming hours of my own :D

p.s. at least with this cold snap here/coming should help keep the consoles cool :p

Actually I havent got round to playing as it turns out one of the ribbon cables they sent me was not the correct one! I've called them back and the guy said he'd look for the cable, but i ordered one on ebay too so whichever arrives first i'll try lol

I sent mine off a to be re-balled by daggerpc but his communication sucks! It took about three days to get a shipping address from him.

He should have received it last Friday but the lack of communication is a little scary. This guy went from 0 PS3s to 80 in the space of 3 months so Im sure he's inundated with emails and texts.

Hopefully should be getting mine back by the end of next week. At this rate you can't even tell.
