LOL moment @ Zebra crossing in Lakeside

You have right of way at a zebra crossing just like when the traffic lights turn red and the green man light is on,do you nod to drivers when crossing the road at a set of traffic lights too? i dont.unless its some hot asian chick driving
That's the important point here. Like others in this thread I do tend to acknowledge drivers at a zebra crossing as it is somehow expected. Why is there a difference in etiquette at a pelican crossing? The law is equally specific - when on a zebra crossing or at a pelican crossing showing red (or flashing amber - cue argument) pedestrians have absolute right of way.

Politeness?! They're required to stop. I acknowledge people who wave me across a road with no pedestrian crossing as they have right of way.

She's not being polite though is she? Him crossing the road caused her inconvenience, what is she thankful for?
She's just being mental. Maybe she is hungover but I wouldn't mind if she was off the roads.

To be fair out of courtesy I would always tend to acknowledge a driver if they stop at non-traffic light pedestrian crossing. Seems the polite thing to do.

+1

Does not matter if they are required to do so or not.

Cashiers are required to give you change when due, does not mean you should blank them when they do so.

I'm with the folks that do the polite thing and give acknowledgement of drivers stopping. Plenty around here just drive straight past. It's not unheard of that people just keep driving around here. I'm talking Zebra crossings. Not if there's an actual red light.

Mutual respect bro, drivers make extra effort to stop, pedestrians wave in a manner than implies "thank you", I (obviously) always try stop at zebra crossings (sometimes I miscalculate/don't see and just carry on my merry way) and as a pedestrian I most of the time give the drivers a way as thank you, just manners.

Same here, Always thanked people at zebra crossings, Never at a red light though. Some people just drive straight through zebra crossings, I'm not sure all drivers know this is law :p

[edit- just noticed the time :(]

I always thank drivers too. As is said above, manners cost nothing and it just feels like the polite thing to do. A red light is a red light - nothing needed but a driver seeing you wanting to cross and reacting by stopping deserves a quick hand wave imo.

For those of you saying that manners cost nothing, that's not the point. Thanking a driver is fine. The question is, would you be annoyed if someone didn't thank you if you were the driver in this situation? If your answer is yes then you are retarded.
