lol tvlicensing

It depends if you believe in freeman, Noel Edmonds was on the BBC news about a programme he did on sky called aid for soldiers. He went in to a little bit of how our society is changing and how people fear that they could be breaking the law and not realising it.

He said himself that he cancelled his TVL on the bbc show because he seen how the TVL operate by bullying and intimidating folk with their letters and visits.

Would you pay a company who have protected peado rings, rigged charity hot lines such as children in need. It should not be accepting payments from other organizations but its accepted millions from the european union over the last few years, Its a fraud of an organization.

So hold on a minute, let's just get one thing straight...

Are you not paying the TV license because Jimmy was a peado or are you not paying the TV license because you're genuinely not watching TV?

Yes i watch the odd show now and then, but i mainly watch films or download shows. I certainly wouldn't warrant it enough to justify paying a tv licence whether see it like that or not, even if i did watch loads of programmes i wouldn't choose to fund that organization.

Wow, I can appreciate your honesty I guess.

They lost the Champions League now too LOL. I am on BT Infinity 80MB now and i am getting most of the football free with BT sport for no extra money. BBC can cry me a river in the corner now as more and more people will see sense in not giving out £150 a year for a few useless TV shows. Wednesday night Champions League was a staple of TV since i was a nipper. And now it is all gone and even has my old pap raging about it.

Now he wants BT Sport too haha.

You do realise you have to pay the licence fee even if you don't watch the BBC, right?

You realise that you're actually posting something there that is potentially quite dodgy?
There is no evidence at all that they protected anyone, let alone "paedo rings".

The payments from the EU were for R&D they did, the BBC is meant by it's charter to do R&D, and in the case of the payments you're talking about it was to partly cover costs of R&D that were for the broadcasting standards used in the EU (the BBC has traditionally done a lot of R&D to that has ended up as part of broadcasting standards*, and is one of the organisations that does the R&D to make sure proposed standards for EU broadcasting work).
That is one of the more ridiculous arguments I've heard, especially given the money involved was basically the equivalent to a few hours prime time programming budget for BBC1.

What rigged charity hotlines? IIRC they had a couple of competitions where due to issues with contacting people production stuff panicked on a live show, and with lines not always being able to close exactly on time (going back a decade), but unlike ITV who DID rig premium rate lines (repeatedly) and DID rig a competition that required people to ring in (IIRC they rigged an award with phone voting to ensure that the person they wanted would present it) the BBC never intended to run a dodgy phone in.

*Some of which where then allowed for use freely, and sometimes patented and the BBC received a small income from that (things like Nicam stereo and the ceefax text system).

Champions league is on ITV so....yea

I think my biggest gripe about the TV licence is that BBC then expect me to pay to buy DVD box sets that my fee has at least partially funded.

Personally, I'd like to see a full back catalogue on iPlayer - I'm aware of the storage costs and potential rights issues - but I really don't see how it is 'fair' to pay twice.

Personally, I'd be happy to get adverts on BBC and not have to pay the fee. I can't see how in any way it would impact programmes other than the fact you get a chance to get and make a drink part way through.

The problem is conanius that an awful lot of the content the BBC has shown in the past was before any such thing online viewing was around - so very few of the older contracts would allow it without renegiotiating (and in some cases the people with the rights don't want their early stuff shown again), and fees to be paid.

Basically whilst we pay the Licence fee that only really covers the broadcast rights for a set period - almost everything shown then has additional fees to pay for things like showing it again after the initial period allowed for in the contract.
And some of the contributing content (say music for example) is extremely expensive to get the rights for additional viewing methods.

Not to mention a lot of the BBC's content is now provided by third parties under a scheme the government pushed on them, so the BBC may not have any longer term rights to it.

As for the advertising thing - there would be a few issues with that, one of the minor ones being the advertising pot isn't big enough (ITV in particular would have fits if the BBC started showing adverts), and it would kill off popular programming that upsets advertisers, programming that is critical of products (watchdog for example), and the sort of niche programming that doesn't get enough viewers to keep the advertisers happy.

They say you have too but I'm seriously considering jacking in the licence and just continuing to watch live tv anyways (not that I watch much to start with), I would happily block and/or delete BBC channels from my sky and free view boxes if I could.

on demand content count as tv as i found out a few years back did not own a tv then but still got taken to court cost me nealy £500 i would rather just pay it
