London Bridge Incident

The government don't decide the terror alert level, it's done by the intelligence community. It's not political. The fact that we've had an attack after a downgrade shows that intelligence relies on what information comes in and this isn't complete. It's inevitable that some plots will go undetected.

Government and intelligence community are one on the same, but I digress. It is nonsense, set at the second highest level for the last 10 years with no terrorist attacks of significance, it's a tool to manipulate the public.

Think about it, what purpose does it serve to announce a terror threat level to the public other than to try to influence them?

Government and intelligence community are one on the same

eh? No they're not.

The government is the executive and made up of politicians. The intelligence community is civil servants/police/military personnel and non-political ergo @Burnsy2023 's comment that the Government don't decide the terror alert level and it is not political

They are if you don tinfoil headwear.

Wow, they went straight at the police. It was pretty frantic: Really fortunate we only had one stray bullet injury, and that not too serious (not a criticism of the police, just an observation of the situation)

I went past there for the first time yesterday. I'm fairly desensitized towards this kind of thing but seeing it all up close really hammered the point home of quite close and severe this was. Quite eerie really. Loads of flowers outside London Bridge train station. My wife went for a check up on St Thomas and the lady she saw said it was her colleague who was the nurse who was killed in the attack.

A massive thanks to our emergency response units who dealt with this extremely swiftly and efficiently. You guys don't get half the credit you deserve for being our heroes.

hats off to the martial arts guy and "i am millwall" guy pair of freaking legends.

once thing i notice is in nearly every attack on uk soil (that's not an unannounced suicide bomb) members of the public have not just ran away but ran towards the terrorists.

who knows how much higher the body count would have been without these people.

I must admit it makes me proud that for so many involved they simply saw people trying to hurt others and tried to stop it.

This is why i dont think Britain will ever succumb to terrorists attacks/demands, they try to cause terror, and for each of them there is 2 Britons willing to inspire hope.

In this attack there is no doubt that helped and the professionalism of the police in that video was incredible.

However with the attacks involving using vehicles running people over or suicide bombings the public can't do much if anything to prevent it once it goes ahead. Hopefully our intelligence services can get a better hold on the latter and stop them in a stage before it gets to detonating.

Heard on the radio this morning that the Home Office is claiming that the flag put on one of the losers by Italian police was a criminal flag and not a terrorism one. I can't help thinking "So?" - a criminal flag should have been enough to have prevented his admission to the UK. We need to take back control of our borders folks.

It's not just for the public though is it. It's to inform transport / emergency services / infrastructure etc.etc. to be on higher alert and preparedness.

Nah we Londoners just love a good drunken fight.

But seriously, after most of the facts are now know, it was very well handled by police and hats off to the have a go heroes that also slowed these scumbags down.

I can only echo what others have said. It's almost impossible to stop this kind of attack but only better intelligence and the ability to nip it in the bud before it happens must be looked at.

Finally found some (bad quality) cctv of the scourge of the earth being shot, hats off to the armed police, looks like a frantic situation.

Seriously, i'm so proud of our police force. After watching that video you they're nothing short of legends and deserve every honer/medal going. It was complete chaos but they managed to get it spot on in seconds.

Hero is banded around too easily these days...these what real heroes look like people

they where well trained and very capable but im not sure i can call a guy in a stabproof vest, 10m clearance and an mp5/g36 against a guy with a knife a hero.

the unarmed civilians thought who intervened be it tackling them or just throwing pint glasses/bottles like so many did, they are heroes

actually i just have to laugh at the typical British response of throwing bottles and pint glasses at terrorists.

Excellent work by our firearms officers, looked a very chaotic situation and they dealt with it exceptionally well. 7 seconds from exiting the car to 3 dead/dying terrorists.

10m isn't very far when you're up against 3 suicide belts I wouldn't have thought albeit fake ones but they weren't to know that.

i have to agree.

sorry but we are not short of people wanting to be here we can be selective.

criminal past (exceptional circumstances decided on a case by case by a competent judge fair enough ) = no entry.

out of curiosity @scorza would you support a case by case judicial system for allowing these people in for a state wide legislative ban on criminal past?

for me personally i want to support a judicial based system so that say the guy in his teens who did something stupid (drink driving, smoked some pot etc) and has learned his lesson can enter. but at the same time there have been so many worrying decisions by judges these last few years that i dont really trust them.

so personally i fall on the side of unappealable legislative action criminal record = no entry.

i understand that but given the 8 min response time i am not sure the "canisters" where reported.

after all suicide bombers would not scare everyone way with knives.

theyd do as they did in the past and dress as police/military to draw crowds of panicked survivors to them.y
