London Bridge Incident

One reason the citizenry should be armed.

How exactly would you stop bad people also easily getting armed?

It is actually difficult to get guns in the UK right now which is why thieved and other criminals aren't routinely armed like other places in the world.

A witness on Sky who lives nearby is reporting gunfire on the bridge 10mins before the police even turned up.

edit: separate incident at nearby market.

Does anyone know how it works in terms of specialist police response.

It's late on a Friday night. Are there specialist officers always on duty to respond to such an incident in London. Or will it be a case of calls going out to specialist officers at home about to go bed saying URGENT get on duty now or similar.

I'm not 100% sure on the intricacies of it but there are police everywhere, at least in the city. Mainly undercover but no idea if they are armed.

Guy few months ago committed suicide by jumping off a building. Within a couple minutes there were a dozen plain clothes officers there.

Also I've seen a few times unmarked cars pull up and 2/3 men running and jump in, next thing the sirens are on and they are off. First time I saw this I thought o was witnessing a robbery or something.

Marked armed vehicles are always patrolling. Easily recognisable by yellow circle stickers on the Windows. Believe a yellow star on the roof too.

So current situation seems to be:

White van mows down pedestrians on the bridge
3 men jump out and start stabbing people

Presumably, armed police return fire.

All coming from eyewitnesses so far though.
This seems to be the case at the moment. I hope no one has died.

considering this was opened up with what was effectively "twitter says there's been a traffic accident on london bridge" then i still stand by that statement.
Perhaps it's a lesson to keep shtum on things and not comment until more facts are known?

Guy on the sky news live feed was doing a gun holding motion but we couldn't hear what he was saying. It's sounding like multiple people jumped out of the van and ran out to borough market

More horror - I hope no one is killed or badly hurt :(

It's almost as if these evil terrorists are trying their hardest to scare the UK with a general election happening.......so many incidents happening in the run up to the 8th June...... as if they want a particular party to win that would aid in their evil plans / propaganda / keep a war happening.............strange isn't it.

Im not to familiar with London... but according to MetPolice Twitter there was also stabbings in Borough Market just minutes after the van incident... is that the same place?

My only contribution to this thread is hoping the victims pull through, the back and forth from the usual suspects just poisons the well for any intelligent discourse.
