London pollution & ULEZ

What would be the feasibility of converting a 2005 plate BMW 320d to be ULEZ compliant? Asking for a friend. What parts would be involved and rough cost? I'm thinking deliberately prohibitive for almost anything?

Many people don't have the money to buy a new vehicle, or pay the new daily tax for using it.

Boris haters loving a Boris plan. The world as flipped.

In fairness the people who liked Boris the Mayor and the people who liked Boris the PM are often quite different. Funnyman gets stuck on zipwire: yes. Arrogant git with bad hair in charge of major catastrophe mitigation: um.

I think it's hilarious the conservatives are all blaming labour on a Tory policy... but as for people who otherwise dislike BoJo the clown supporting ULEZ

even a broken clock is right twice a day ;)

Yeah the support/opposition really doesn't neatly fall down party lines at all. The government even pushed Khan to implement it faster while its ministers derided it. Starmer was telling Khan he didn't like it any more. Labour on Labour, Tory on Tory. It's really turning into one of these wedge issues again.

This is really quite poor form.

Great for those, like yourself, who can afford it. I feel for those who can't. It really is a sad economic burden on the poorer.
The poor ought to realise by now that they're expendable, maybe if they'd stop meekly taking the beatings that come from upon high they'd get less beatings.

Will this ULEZ caper have a negative impact on a Labour Mayor getting elected next year (May 2024).
I dont know if Sadiq Khan intends to stand again, perhaps he will step down and look for a seat somewhere to get in as an MP?

Non compliant ULEZ bargains incoming then for those that will not need to go into ULEZ zone and have cash waiting? i.e. Some high spec Diesel performance cars that fall of a cliff in terms of pricing being sold around London area?

The huge amount of 90's Japanese performance cars that do not meet criteria. Anything "Classic" from 1983 to mid 00's is going to buggered. I can imagine a lot of tuning shops going out of business because no one will want to take their pride and pay £12.50 for the privilege. Ace Cafe and places like that will more than likely go the same.

If someone's tuning shop goes out of business because individual customers who want non-ULEZ cars tuned don't think they're worth paying an extra £12.50 to get their car tuned there, they probably weren't likely to be around much longer anyway.

Yeah but it's £12.50 EVERY. SINGLE. DAY they use the car inside the zone. Even if you only drive a few times a week in it, that's another £125 odd a month in a country where everything else is going up. For those that used their cars daily in affected cars it's about £275 a month to continue doing so just for week days.
