Lost Ark EU - !!

I'm at the start, about 30 minutes played, am I meant to be level 10 off the bat?

Also my equipped weapon is Level 50... this makes no sense to me at level 10. I'm probably too used to other MMO's.
This is normal. Read that in the original release the prologue bit was a lot longer and you finished it at level 10, but they cut it right down and just let everyone start at 10.
As for the equipment level, I'd not overthink it. It's unrelated (as far as I have seen) to your character level and is just how good the equipment is.

When i first started i almost uninstalled thinking it was trash.

Now level 50 Bezerker and its so much fun. Doing Chaos Dungeons just makes you feel like a god!

Queue times are frustrating but they will ease. As for the story not a clue whats going on just had Netflix on and went through it.

I'm shocked, unlike him... the man is insufferable but everyone is entitled to an opinion.

I've seen enough of his videos though to realise my interests don't align with him. I've not watched that video but no doubt he went on about old MMO's and how they used to be?

Sort of yeah, basically the crux of what he says is, its not an MMO, you get rewarded with oodles of loot for every tiny action in the game "have another reward, why am I getting all these rewards, here's another reward for asking that" etc, its far too easy "its boring and easy", where are all the players "its like 6 players per instance", you have to play it for 4000 hours before it gets good.

I'm much the same as you, I do often find that my interests dont align with him, I also can usually predict that if its a title that many people like, the chances are that he will say the opposite (sometimes I think he says the opposite on purpose, to portray himself as some kind of white knight , railing against the masses). Now, having said that, I didnt like Lost Ark (as per my earlier post) but that wasnt because its a bad game, that was because of reasons specific to my tastes. I can certainly see why Lost Ark is a really good game for many people. I suppose the trouble with Mack is that he doesnt do objective reviews he only reviews based on his own tastes, which I guess is all good and well but it does make it very hard to use his reviews as a guideline for buying games because its like reading a review of a movie about Middle Eastern Carpentry in the 15th Century written by a woodworker who studied medieval furniture design. They may rave about the movie and you go watch it and think its dump, not very useful as a barometer for purchase.

It's free to play, why even bother with a pre order.

Because they got a 3 day headstart (pointless in the grand scheme of things in an MMO) and a few bit and bobs, skins etc So, no it wasn't worth paying for IMO, but people just can't wait...and publishers know they can milk that impatience with a Founders packs, the top was was £90! :D

I'm all for supporting FTP games financially, I do with Path of Exile (pay for convinience stash tabs), but I want to see the game first and see if it worth my money.,

I think general people pre-order as a flex and a quick hit of dopamine. People love shouting that they've just "grabbed" this or that, even though they know EA (for example) is going to ream them for another £80 every year for Battlefield Whatever, they still queue up round the block to have their pants pulled down, and then go on Reddit and cry about it...

Pre-ordering has beeen absolutely detrimental to games and gamers, we all know this, but gamers have no patience, no self-control and little in the way of critical thinking skills.

If he's had actually said that LA isn't an MMO, then it is a pretty good indication of the value of the rest of the review.

I think his actual wording was "its not a real (or possibly he said true or proper) MMO", which I guess he might have a point on, I suppose that it would be a question of what defines an MMO. I know that is a question that I've debated with people for many years over (some people think that Path of Exile is an MMO for example, whereas I wholeheartedly disagree on that, its an online ARPG, not an MMO). I didnt really play far enough into Lost Ark to say whether I thought it was an MMO or not though.

I have > 10 hour now and it’s a good game so far. The server/launcher problems and are bad so I’m glad I did not pay, or I would not be happy. The game feels a bit like a new Diablo, will be interesting to compare Diablo 4 when it out. It’s starting to look like characters are locked to the server they were created on which if true is bad for me as I could not play on EU servers so I will have to start again at some point.

Oddly, I'd normally agree, but I'm glad I did pay for the silver pack. It got me some decent starting items and I had 3 days of playing without any queues (I didn't try to log in during peak hours). It certainly gave me a good head start as I'm now chasing end game gear to start raiding properly.

I think you'd really have to stretch your defintions to ridiculous lengths to claim LA is not an MMO. It clearly is, it's just a different take than we are used to with our big Western MMO's like WOW, ESO, OSRS, the old stuff like Ultima of EVE Online even etc I really don't like getting bogged down in defintions and classifications either it's nitpicky and anal. I like Nerdslayer's content, the Death of a Game stuff in particular but he engages in all this classfiication BS.

There's no way POE is an MMO - it is as you describe.

Thing is that review is littered with inaccuracies and outright lies.

He is stuck well in the golden age of games long past and I do think its time he called it a day.

Anyway had enough of his bias now so unsubbed him.

What, you mean when games were actually half-decent, were released in a finished state and without any of the dumbed down **** like x-ray vision, QTEs and massive markers on the screen telling you where to go and what to do?
