Yeah there's mention of uprated sound system etc on the youtube videos of the car, but nothing about that on the configurator. Also suspension options are missing.

Still no call from a dealership after putting my deposit down last night, had thought they would call round everyone the following day just to confirm receipt or check contact details lol. Guess not!

@Gibbo so it sounds like the V6 will be the 75k option and the 2.0 the 60k ish one with less power then? but there was talk of a sub 4 second car, are we assuming the lower power but 2.0 turbo is the quicker one with DCT? But it'll sound pants by comparison basically? I'm muddled :D :D :D

BMW (that barely moves anymore) + Vantage (that I would hate to sell) + little bit of cash = £60k Emira

Placed a deposit so I at least have the choice. At worst I lose the interest on £2k in my bank for 9 months or so.

I’d love a V6 manual for the noise alone but needs to be close to £60k for me to make it work and as it will be my daily and fun car then an auto is a harsh reality as manual is just no fun in the traffic jams that I end up stuck in.
Hoping the Kef speakers are a silly priced option and can’t make up my mind between red, green or blue.

Why I want to drive a manual before deciding, dealership ensures me they have improved greatly over years and offered a test drive in an Exige so gonna take them up on it because if the manual is good and clutch a decent then a manual in traffic jams is fine, GR and S2000 are great manuals whereas the Aston can become tiring and annoying in a traffic jam but had an epic drive in the Aston tonight and it’s really a great drive once you get properly into it, full of feel and I know the Lotus will trump the astons great steering feel.

I suspect the sub 4s will either be the V6 auto or the DCT with LC.

shush your mouth, can't stretch to a V6 so need to convince myself that I need an auto ;)

I've not driven one but I gather anecdotally that when Lotus moved to the exposed gear linkage the shift was greatly improved. Having said that, once adjusted properly, I never had a problem with my 2010 Evora gearshift.

Apparently the later Evora gear change is much better, the automatic as well.

The manual gear change is a quite long throw in the Elise and Exige. Not sure about the Evora. It feels very mechanical but it is a smooth change and you can change pretty quickly. If there is any slack (at all) there is something wrong with the linkages.

If you're testing the Exige, it will have more pace than the Emira will I bet.

I drove the Final Edition Elise and Exige recently and the gear shift's still not great. It's not awful, and the mechanism looks the part – and it's all tough and accurate enough that you can bang through the gears merrily – but it's still far behind any decent set-up that doesn't rely on convoluted cables. Not by enough to spoil the overall experience to a notable extent, but it could be better.

Gratifying not to have to worry about the clutch in the Evora, if you go the automatic route, given their oft-short lifespan and the cost and time required to replace one...

That's essentially how I'd configure, except with black roof and the lightweight wheels. s3VCs4W8

Very much on the fence about putting a deposit down. Not sure I could stretch to the V6 though.

I'm not a fan of the black roof, but the green just sets off the silver alloys and tan leather an absolute treat. Might not be the shouty shouty of the yellow or red though, but still a very classy looking sports car.

I think the AMG will be a cracking car. It's just the sound you are missing out on, but you gain the auto box and £15k isn't to be sniffed at. I'd also assume it will be better on tax beng a smaller engine.

Decisions, decisions.

@TheOracle Agreed, the green paint and silver wheels is just such a classic british sports car look. The yellow calipers are the only choice, surely, matching the yellow Lotus badging. And yes, the tan leather is where it's at.

I'm sure the AMG powered variant will be more than quick enough, and is likely to feel more nimble, but having the soundtrack of the V6 might make it feel more special.

My phone call with Lotus suggested the V6 was not limited and would continue to be produced alongside the AMG powerplant as I was hoping V6 was gonna phase out as that would certainly bolster the value of first edition cars which all come with the V6 powerplant and the AMG unit will come around three months later.

P.S. You live once! Deposit placed! :D

kinell i need to sort out my life choices.
would love one of these well done @Gibbo

Lotus said they designed everything around the AMG engine to make it special, but agreed you can't make a 2lt sound like a v6. It's just how much worse it's going to be. There's obviously the tuning element, and I've no idea how they both compare in regards to reliability or servicing.

I might see if I can find some youtube videos of the two engines and compare the sound.

My head says AMG, but heart says V6.

2min 16 for the V6 (sounds good) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIAQgB0qf3c

AMG A45 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf9oeYp9ZkI

Well I don't think there's any comparison is there. The V6 sounds like an engine, whereas the other just sounds like a popping exhaust. That doesn't mean the AMG is going to be a bad choice, it's just the sound.....I say 'just'

The Lotus should sound much better with having a short exhaust. The Mercs are very muffled.

This is the V6 though :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GwPkJjGiE0

Or a naughty one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO_TNzHJK8g

The 4 cylinder could sound something like the Elise I suppose. Lotus kinda has their exhaust note and the Elises from all eras all sound similar, so I'd expect it to be something like that.

Stunning machine. If it's half as good to drive as it looks, it'll be amazing. Should be strong competition to its German rivals.

Better start saving the pennies.
