The Alpine was £46k and hardly flew off the shelves!

I'd never consider that though, great it might be but no desire to buy.
The deposit is refundable so if I change my mind I can, but just nice to have the option if I decide to go ahead.

Even if the Alpine had been same price as GR at 33k, I'd still take the GR, I can't put my finger on it but the Alpine does nothing for me, even though in many ways its kind of car I would go for, I think I just dislike the way it looks and sounds.

P.S. You live once! Deposit placed! :D

Congrats to you Gibbo and everyone else who has placed a deposit! I'm sure many will continue through to purchasing once the road reviews are out.

Quite green with envy which suits this pic :D.

I'm so tempted but my money is already earmarked for a new garage build.

I think the Alpine was mostly seen as a more expensive GT86 rival.

It was also quite fugly and the blind aren't allowed to drive :p.

Looks great in green. No point in a garage if you don't have a new car to park in it.

The pictures on PH show that the bulkhead behind the seats is substantially different between the Evora and Emira. This is a major structural component of the car and does strongly suggest that the new car is substantially more than a reskinned Evora.
Good hopefully they have moved the engine forward a bit to make the weight distribution more even.

nice one @Gibbo that's two of us so far! and many others on the fence thinking about it!

Interesting re the info you got from the dealership - seems to differ from some of the videos though, where the AMG powerplant is touted to be the 400bhp sub 4 to 60 block, and the V6 to be the 360bhp one.
Waiting patiently to see what the actual prices for spec and powers are though. That AMG unit could be tuned very easily for example!

The dealership seem to know his stuff, I asked which engine is which and he said the AMG unit is the entry level with 360HP and will be around 62-65k generally based on options and the V6 is the premium model and will be the First Editions with 400HP and only come with manual or traditional automatic carried over from Evora and that the AMG unit is DCT only and won't be available until later 2022 for people ordering those. The V6 will be arounds 75k with typical options he suggested.

He seemed to know his stuff and was confident and like @Housey says I have heard great things about Oakmere, but time will tell what comes and if I cancel or go ahead with the order. Ideally this needs to replace a car and not be an addition but I like to horde, lol. :D

If you carry on we're gonna have to start calling you shmee :p

Can't help but think that a car like that, for £60k is going to sell so well they will be ten a penny

The launch website quotes the AMG unit at 360bhp

ENGINE SPECIFICATION
Everything about Emira is for the drivers, including the engine. Emira will offer two powertrains built to deliver blistering performance and maximum thrills. This includes the much-loved and characterful 3.5-litre supercharged V6 and the world’s most powerful production 4 cylinder engine developed in conjunction with AMG and tuned to deliver a heart-racing 360hp.

It was explicitly referenced in the launch video early on that this is specifically a volume product to get Lotus on the map, and production has been setup to hit 4k a year.

Haha I wished, think his car collection spans an entire underground car park and he has Ford GT's, living the dream.
In a way I do need to downsize or try to find a car that can deliver a few cars in one, as taxing, servicing and running them all gets expensive. Aston and Yaris this month have cost a grand in servicing and there were no issues with either and I still need to service the S2000, another reason it would be good to downsize, it takes time maintaining them all also and of course the expense. In a way the sensible choice would be just go back to the F-Type SVR, but get a convertible version so no more 458 or S2000 or Aston required and the SVR was mega cheap to run, £300 a service, bonkers how cheap that car was considering how epic fast it was but I can think of a reason to keep them all and know I'd miss them, so will horde for now, got a year to think things over. :)

Worldwide or UK only? 4k is not a huge amount in the UK really but if thats a worldwide number, that is tiny.

I imagine worldwide but the market for Lotus isn't exactly big outside of the UK. It is about a quarter of Porsche Boxster/Cayman numbers according to Statista.

It sounds like, at the very latest, the V6 will be available until EU regs kill it in 2027.

I do have a few concerns as details begin to filter out, but nothing fundamental.

Historically 360bhp in a Lotus would be incredible but this is one heavy Lotus (a relative term) at 1,400kgs and 360bhp is sort of CSL level of performance, which these days is not seen as super quick. GT4 is 1495kgs according to Porsche but I know Harry's Garage video had the Boxster GTS with the 6 cylinder engine coming in at a barely credible 1280kgs.

For me this car at 450bhp to 500bhp would make it compelling or at 1200kgs in current form. Still, road tests will be interesting and I hope Louts have nailed it because I do have a soft spot for the brand as an Englishman and motorsport fan.

Question is having never explored Lotus before, do their new car values get hammered the moment you take delivery or are they good at holding value?

As I understand its very dependent on the model and variation. Mate has a 2009 Exige which dropped a bit in value in the first 3 years, but due to the rarity of the engine and options hasn't lost any value in the last 8 years. If I remember rightly it was £40kish new and is still worth around £30k
