Low cost business idea thread.

Mowing lawns can be fairly profitable if we get a half-decent summer. Keep the grass cuttings and make your own mulch and sell at market. It's not going to make you a millionaire overnight, but if you build up a decent territory you can always take on a few staff.

It's fairly seasonal work, but there is still stuff needs done come winter.

10. Geographical Information Sites: Create a strong website with a domain linked to your area, for example; truro.com (and truro.co.uk) for a town or city near you. Fill site with information about the town, but leave out all of the businesses, just be general. SEO it (the domain should do most of it for you) and tweak it until it is visited a lot. Print out your AWstats for the domain. Now go to local businesses and pitch them the idea that you will add information related to their business for a fee. Turn this into a bidding war, highest bidder per cash per month wins. Add the relevant information to your site. The result: advertising fees without any actual advertisments or affiliate schemes on your site, which is great for Google pageranks, and monthly cash for you.

Drop shipping has been mentioned in the past.

It's annoying that software is always stolen and hardware is built for pennies by the Chinese. Something that combines the two and sells into a niche market might be viable.

Someone making a Plug n play CCTV DVR that used 2Mpixel USB webcams might be interesting.

One to add to the list.

Go to work for a company Mon-Fri and in return you could accept something called a salary. It cost nothing to get setup and the only continual outgoing is transport.

I've been doing that now for 20 years and it's worked out pretty well.

Something I've been wanting to do but probably will never get round to doing:

1. Buy a big childrens paddling pool
2. Place somewhere with a decent amount of light, fill with water and a cheap aquarium pump.
3. Buy a small amount of riccia fluitans from eBay.
4. Place in the paddling pool.
5. Watch as plant grows.
6. Every so often, sell some of the plant, but not too much to slow growth.

To give you an idea, a small pingpong ball amount seems to sell for about £4 and I have an aquarium full of it.

Edit: On this same idea, growing plants in general could be very profitable, you could grow chili plants to the point of being nearly ready to flower and sell them. I bet there's lots of demand and the cost could be very very low if you don't use heated propagators and the like. Get in the 2014 chili growing thread!

According to unemployed people, there are no jobs, hence the thread!

There's a lot of money in Youtube, and the entry requirements are pretty small: Do you have a modicum of wit and charisma plus the ability to play computer games? If so, then you can make a decent chunk of change.

Your SEO / making money from a local business listings website ideas seem to be at least 10 years out of date.

I am sure it is, however it is still an exploitable market. New businesses open daily, new communities are created every year, villages and hamlets grow, etc.

buy a boatload of cheap junk from China and flog it on ebay for profit.

sorted.

This is potentially a useful thread for myself.

But other than this ^^ which I have considered is there actually and real suggestions other than coin mining?

It would seem not.
