Low cost business idea thread.

AFAIK this is basically illegal. If you buy a domain and sit on it without using it for the sole purpose of selling it on then you will be forced to give it up for free.

It's not illegal I didn't think? Though laws were brought in in the last couple of years to standardise a practice where domains could be taken back by a company with a better right to it than the current holder, so it's certainly not profitable.

The context you have quoted is incorrect. Domain squatting is illegal yes, but domain squatting only applies to trademarks or a blatent business related domain.

Domain squatting also known as cyber squatting is the act of registering a domain name with the purpose of getting monetary benefit from the trademark belonging to someone else. Usually cyber squatter registers a domain name for a business or trademark that belongs to someone else and later on tries to sell it to the actual owner of business/trademark at hefty profit.

If I buy goodweather.com and sit on it and not do anything with it and then sell it, this is not illegal in the slightest. If however I search companies house and find x domain name that matches a company, and sit on it and sell it, it is illegal.

On which subjects would that be. I used to have a landlady who reviewed tech products for companies, trying to save them from expensive mistakes

The subject matter varied greatly. I've penned lots of the top ten... articles that you see online, historical pieces, paranormal pieces, you name it. Also lots of general copy and editing.

I'm not quite on £100 per hour, though! :)

Links to the people that pay £100 per hour, please. I have written unique copy for years and have hundreds of articles published. A hundred quid an hour is unheard of to me. It's well-known within the industry that few writers make anywhere near good money.

I can't link to people who pay £100 an hour but I can link to people who demand £100 and have reviews. Obviously a price comes with a private contract.

Just a few. There are 60 more on Odesk alone but a lot of them offer many other talents.

I am guessing the £233 one had raised her price because she doesn't want work, but then other who do this tend to raise it to $1000/hr so...

Out of interest do you have a website/portfolio for your work? Email in trust if needed.

1. Sell jam to strangers on the Underground.

2. Buy 1,500 pairs of jeans off Ebay and make a colossal profit by not being able to sell them on again, shep selling them for a huge mark up.

Are they using it to sell a competing product to the one you own the trade mark for, or do they just happen to be called the same name as your trade mark?
