M2 Upgrade option?

I don't actually remember where I got the firmware
Couple other ideas though
What power plan are you using?
If not high performance try that
Also in power plan look at advanced settings
Then make sure pcie link state power management
Is switched off
And lastly in power plan check if fast start is turned on
That may depend whether you use hibernation
I delete my hyberfil.sys file

Yep temps just fine.

Believe it or not, mine sits at 26C and hardly ever moves.
Though it is fitted on an add in card in the bottom PCIe slot on my mobo, with a fan pointing at it.
As my M.2 slot has a Samsung 970 evo in it with the O/S on. The MP510 is just a data drive.

Depending on who you bought it from, might be worth considering giving their tech support a phone.
If OCuk, then I've always found them very helpful. You can even point them to this thread for info etc.

Think I've run out of ideas at the moment.

PS. Only my personal opinion and no disrespect intended... but I would be wary of updating the Firmware other than via the Corsair toolbox. Managed to knacker a Vertex 4 SSD doing this once.

thats ok mate :)
am almost sure i updated it through corsair toolbox anyway
motherboards and gpus i have flashed myself in dos
but not ssds/m2
its possible i have a different revision of the drive or something
if those power plan options dont help
then probably out of ideas too

I just adjusted the power plan and made no difference. I will take a look at the firmware idea but as its my boot drive, I will need to be very careful.
Thanks for everyone's help. I will contact the shop I got it from and see what they say.

I have decided to rma the drive but as its my os drive I just ordered a Samsung SSD 980 1tb for £100. Seems to be a solid drive for the money, will be interesting to see how it performs.

The 980 non-Pro is kind of "meh" at that price. It's DRAMless and Gen 3. I'd rather a decent Gen 3 drive like the WD SN750, Samsung 970 Evo Plus or Crucial P5 all of which have been sub £100 recently. It isn't much more for a Gen 4 drive if you wait for a good deal. I got the 1TB 980 Pro for £125 last month.

I am now torn between these:
Samsung 970 Evo Plus
Crucial P5 plus
ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro (£20 cheaper)
Without some discount Samsung drive is likely brand overpriced.
Crucial P5 should be at good price generally.

Adata has done such amount of component swapping, that it's impossible to know what you're getting now.
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/adata-switches-nand-on-sx8200-pro-ssd-performance-impacted

Though also Samsung isn't anymore such heavy use drive but consumer workload oriented with sustained write speed halved.
(from change of controller and fewer higher capacity dies occupying less channels for lower internal parallelism)

Yes I just read about Adata, defiantly going to avoid that one.
Samsung SSD 980 £100
Samsung 970 evo pro £125
Crucial P5 plus £126
Crucial P5 £89
WD black sn750 £109

The reviews on the 980 seem decent so do I stick with it or cancel and go with a deferent drive? My machine is used for gaming 95% of the time.

To be honest you're probably fine with it
Unless you really care about minor differences
In benchmarks and stuff
Or want to dive into every little aspect of each drive compared to the other
Or are doing a load of moving files around
Most of them will feel the same for everyday use
I can't really tell when using my old sm951 compared to my mp510s
Except when I move a load of files from one drive to the others

Its a very good point. My son is running his gaming setup off an MX500 and its just as quick as mine.

Yeah part of the thing is
If you go read reviews they go into stuff that
Everyday users just won't notice
Simply because they review stuff for a living
So are kind of expected to go Into minute
Details
And pretty sure Samsung also did the sneaky swap components trick
Though don't remember which drive
But yeah people who reviews drives for
A living will definitely be more critical
Since just saying yeah it's a good drive
To every drive would make a
Pretty boring review

Lol. Very disappointing to hear about Samsung, from what I can see its the 970 evo plus that they messed with. Not good.

P5 is what I'd choose. It's a better drive than the 980 and as said the differences are marginal so cheapest is best.
