sounds like you have a bad stick or DIMM socket. Test one at a time, would not try booting Windows until you sort the issue out as each bad pass if its the memory can damage the installation more and more.
 
Fox, I have a 8800GTX knocking about, it might stand a better chance of booting with that then with an ATI card. If you cover the postage I'll send the card to you to try out, or next time you're towards Wiltshire way I can meet up with you or whatever. I don't use the card, just use it as a backup really.

This is truely driving me up the wall.

New board in now - another IP35 Pro.

Won't even POST at all. Random codes, sometimes C5, sometimes 01.

:(

I cannot remember ever having this sort of trouble with any machine I've ever built before :(
 
My experience would suggest that checking your PSU out would be a good idea. Have you a spare one (or one you can borrow) to swap it out?

Its always a good starting point as I've had so many random faults caused by an unstable PSU.

Now trying known good RAM.

It's so random, it never does the same thing twice, it was POSTing but now it's stopped doing that again. Sigh. The error code is usually different each time as well.
 
So it POST'd. Into BIOS, set USB keyboard support to BIOS. The only change I made.

Restarted. POST'd again, no problem. Got as far as booting but no boot device found - thats fine, I'd forgotton to put CD-ROM in the boot order. Hit reset simply to do this and it's hung on the splash screen - error code 52.

I had made ZERO changes to anything between the succesful POST and the unsuccesful POST.

Troubleshooting random behaviour is almost impossible :(
 
Error 90 is almost always the board, so the switch was a good idea. Have you tried a windows reinstall on the new board?
 
I wish I could even get as far as the Windows reinstall on the new board :(

If I clear the CMOS it will almost always POST - but as soon as I make changes in the BIOS and reboot thats that, it messes about and fails to get past the splash screen.

So I can't get as far as installing Windows because I can't set the correct boot order.

I have never encountered anything as frustrating as this before.

So far I have tried:

a) A new board
b) A new HDD
c) New memory
d) New graphics card

PSU testing is going to be tricky but I cannot understand how a PSU would be sensitive to simple changes in the BIOS :(
 
Do the PSU check... really think it is this...

Unstable PSU can hacve an effect at any point - hence random error codes, and perhaps even a boot into the OS before a lockup...

I have set the machine up outside of the case now and I've finally got into Windows installer and it seems to be progressing though I'm sure it's taking a lot longer than usual..
 
I'm beginning to lose hope again, as it's been sat on 'Setup is Starting' for ages.

Edit: It's actually just carried on again after literally 4-5 minutes of sitting there..

Windows is now installing..

It's definately ridiculously slow though, which seems odd.
 
And thats the end of that, Windows installer crashed out with a BSOD saying

'BAD_POOL_CALLER'

you seem to have ruled out everything but the psu
 
Maybe the CPU has let go? Granted in most cases they either work or dont work. How about underclocking a lot if you can get into BIOS to see?
