Madeleine McCann cops ask Home Office for more money to continue search for missing child

Why don't the German police do the search?

They are in an active investigation with Christian Brueckner.

They are doing, nothing to do with Britain, I linked the story.
The Germans are doing it because they know he is guilty, they have also claimed they have evidence but not enough to charge him.
Someone from England is going out to observe.

Have no sympathy for the parents. Knew something dodgy was going on 16 years ago

Yes they made very bad decisions that night but I think they have probably suffered enough for their mistake. Not knowing for certain what happened to their daughter must be awful. They and her siblings deserve closure.

Utterly ridiculous how much has been spent on one case. No disrespect to the McCanns, but other kids go missing all the time in the UK and don't get 1/10th of these resources. There are something like 2000 long-term missing children in the UK right now (in fairness, they are all older than Madeleine was when she disappeared, but that doesn't make them any less important to their families). If the police had unlimited funds, then sure, but we all know they have been crippled by the current government. They should be taking more care to ensure that spending is prioritised.

I notice, mind, that they are only spending two days on this. Seems a pretty feeble effort, given the size of the lake.

I agree. But not at any cost.
I might add, the McCanns raised significant sums of money and then wasted a lot of it on scams and pointless ventures. I would be more sympathetic had they spent the money wisely.

Our taxes are frivelled away all over the place, at least in this instance it's attempting justice for an innocent little girl, and for that I have no complaints.

14 meter deep reservoir that's what, a mile long? I guess it's possible they find her but that seems hard to cover that amount of area. I guess they have specialist teams for that.

They treated their children on holiday as inconveniences. The accommodation had FREE babysitting services. But decided not to.

I reckon if parents had lower paid jobs, they would be arrested for child neglect

That doesnt answer the question. You would have to be pretty dead inside to not have some sympathy for someone that lost a young child in those circumstances.

Unless you think they did it.

They aren’t going to conduct such a search without solid leads. Hopefully they find her and they can close the case and we don’t have to keep hearing about it.

Like others say, it’s a shame other missing kids don’t get the same exposure, but then doctors, on holiday, pretty daughter, possible paedophile involved, it’s a media field day.

Highly trained specialists with modern technology, it’s probably doable, but hugely challenging. Needle in a haystack doesn’t even cover it.

I'm so utterly bored of hearing about this lot now. Shouldn't have left their 3 year old on their own in a foreign country, end of. How they still keep getting the funding and approval for these atomically-minuscule chance searches and investigations is beyond me.

Astonishing that money and resources are still being dedicated to this. Shes gone. Its horrible. The money spent on this could have done some actual good in the world rather than been a huge waste though. I can't think of any other case that has had so few victims and so many resources spent on it. I would wager that more has been spent on this than any other missing persons case in UK history.
