Mafia 3

Did a video showing how to get across to the airport, although there is some ground texture, you will fall through some areas. There air planes in this game.

My technical review:

This is total dog excrement, saw better graphics 5 years ago, still glitchy as hell (1st mission had a guy stuck to outside of the car), runs like a stuttery 3 legged bovine

Was a massive fan of the other mafias, this couldnt lick their boots

Review was with the patch on a machine with a 390, 16GB Ram and a 6600K

I HAVE BEEN ROBBED

Good visual example of how times are changing. It used to be a love affair making games, devs going above and beyond to add extras for more immersion. Back in those days I would spend just as long walking around a level seeing what I could interact with, reading things on walls or whatever. These days everything feels completely lacking of any soul or love, just make something, throw it out in whatever state, make the money and not care about much.

Right my view after 9 hours:

Pros:
Great cutscenes and voice acting
Solid Story & presentation of the story (flashback retelling etc)
Lieutenant missions are good (Fairground?! That was great)
Great soundtrack and general atmosphere
Gunplay has weight (do like the shotguns)

Cons:
- Average graphics (a step up from Mafia 2 but not nearly good enough considering GTA V) especially when factoring in performance.
- Outside of the story missions the game is fairly repetitive (I'm probably not the best person for this as I always get a tad bored with gameplay in open world games which aren't quest driven like Skyrim, I got bored in GTA V...maybe it's the lack of character progression). I see what they tried with the district/racket mechanics. It's a solid base but needs more variety. The lieutenant missions as mentioned above were definitely better! It was mentioned on reddit but the Shadow of Mordor Nemesis system might have worked quite well here.
- Melee fighting is rubbish, takedowns get old fast.
- The world much like Mafia 2 still feels fairly empty in terms of general things to do. In addition as outlined in a video above, some of the things that Mafia 2 did ok on were inexplicably removed.

I'll reserve full judgement until I've completed it. Is it true there are multiple endings based on your choices throughout the game?

I don't think Mafia 2 was as good as some are making out here, I thought its story and missions were a step down from Mafia 1 which was a masterpiece.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Games are lacking in character these days, you can tell they've just chucked so and so together without a care, it's a crying shame, and I can see it only getting worse now. Par for the course just seems to be show off some amazing graphics at E3/Gamescom etc, then by release, dumb it down massively, release with bugs/faults, fix a few and leave it at that. I hate what gaming is turning into.

Mafia 2 was infinitely worse than 1, opinions and all but I dobut anyone could argue otherwise.

Mafia 1 is one of my all-time favourite games in terms of storyline and missions, only matched by a couple of titles.

Shambles of game..... so disappointed 1 and 2 where great.... then this poor show! Even after the patch it's still just about 40 with dips, as them benchmarks show.

It's reminds me of the GTA 4 that was mess first off .... after 6 months it was just about playable.

Might revisit this after about 3 patches and see if they can be bothered to fix it. Shame really.

Don't normally get on the bandwagon with moaning and stuff. It's peoples money and they can do what they like. Like I have with this game! But yes we need stop pre-ordering games full stop. Been burnt a few times now... this is last one!

The whole thing with state of games and DLC's are getting thin now.

I do understand people just getting a playstation or xbox. You spend a fair amount of money to have a better experience, just for it a be a waste but say 1 or 2 games. They need a shake up with devs.

I recently played mafia 2 and it ***** all over this.

Such a shame as the story for this seems decent and the setting could/would have been great. The gunplay/action to the game is fun but meh, I just can't stick the awful performance and sub par graphics.

n00b question - how do you install that? Do you download ReShade 3.0 or 2.0.3? And then what do you do with it and the preset?

Apologies for my n00bness. :D

2.0.3 for k-putts, he has linked to it.

and just copy everything except the reshade32.dll to the main directory of mafia 3 i.e. where the exe and launcher is located.

Then

- copy the preset from that link, hit "show settings"
- open sweetfx folder in the directory of mafia 3
- open sweetfx_settings with notepad
- delete everything there
- paste the preset you copied from the thelazy k-putt link
- save

Launch game and in the top left, you should see a message saying successful

Cheers m8, will give that a whirl. So just dump everything which was in the zip file into the game dir? You don't have to double click on ReShadeSetup.exe?

Couple more questions - what are people adjusting in the 'In-game' video settings? I'm assuming some of them have no real effect, obviously depending on individual systems.

The fps setting, better to stick it on unlimited or 60fps?

Am i the only one who have issues with what looks like dynamic scaling of quality going haywire on the cars causing them to look incredible blurry, especially the chrome parts. I mean its really really really bad. Its so bad the wheels are one big gradient of silver/chrome with no detail. Also the lightning is completely **** and also goes all over the places and im not talking about the clouds moving and blocking the sun but like over the top bright and then redish dark like satan has landed on the earth

Yes except the 32.dll, you only the 64 one.

And no, you can use the exe if you want, doesn't matter.

From reading around, supposedly changing settings has minimal impact on the performance :o

For my pc, it is better to stick it to 30 fps cap as I barely get above 30 fps and if I even get near 60, the fps drops are even more noticeable then...

Ok, tried doing all that, but when I launch the game I don't get any message of any sort in the top left to indicate it was successful? :(

These are the only files you need to copy into the main directory of mafia 3:

And you have copied all of the settings from k-putts preset and pasted them into the sweetfx_settings text file contained in the sweetfx folder?

If so, then try launching reshade setup and selecting mafia3.exe
