Magners - where's it all gone

It's all marketing. Apparently the apple pulp is actually imported from china so it's not really that Irish. Also, the drinking of it over ice helps as according to Wikipedia (which is always right) cold temperatures dull the taste buds, making taste less important.

We've been drinking it ages in town. Usually because it comes in a bigger bottle than Strongbow for the same price :p

wonder what they do to may it stay fizzy on ice , I tried a normal can of strongbow with ice and it went flat as soon as it was poured on

Have seen a few people drinking it here in Bristol, which is strange. As Mrdbristol says, theres plenty of good ones down here. Westons family reserve. 8% and tastes lovely (sorry for going slightly off topic)

there used to be an excellent cider farm in Mark iirc.
used to love living in saltford, easy access to 2 great cities and plenty of local ciders to drink :D

it's a bit annoying how before this Magners stuff people call Stongbow drinkers "charver" or "park scum", but now its all cool to like cider because of this magners.

I've made 3 trips over there in the past 10 days or so and it's exactly the same for me. My last 1L bottle was mostly drunk by my brothers missus

its always been cool to drink cider, in the sun, in a pub garden, by the lock or river, over ice.
its never been cool to drink cider, from 2+ltr bottles, at night, in a park

I started drinking it a few months back at a BBQ a neighbnour had....Jesus....now i buy at least three large bottles weekly. Nice drink....and I dont drink beer anymore. Its just lurvly served in pints with Ice!

I've never had it over ice. Perhaps the people who have given me stick for drinking Strongbow in the past are just not very cultured.

or your a chav and no matter what you drink you act like a chav (not saying you are)
strongbow isnt the best cider tho, fighting drink ;]

There's none left because my mate drank most of the stocks during the England game on Saturday. :p

It is just a fad, like Caffereys and will pass soon enough. Pffft! Irish Cider, whatever next.

ice chilled....or Ice if its not chilled. Magners seems to have a completely different flavour when ice cold....than when its just cold.
Unlike other ciders....its very smooth and very easy to drink....thats generally while most weekends now i'm pretty well splatted :)

It was introduced into all the pubs up here with a huge amount of POS marketing; beermats, posters, stupid cardboard things that clutter the bar etc etc. Combined with the TV ads, it was all enough to make people think it was the next cool drink.

I think it's nice if you've got a hangover, very refreshing, I don't drink it that often though, it's £2.20 a pint!

It doesn't taste like Strongbow, in fact nothing like it. Strongbow has that bitter strong taste to it that i find horrible. The only thing slightly better is Sirrus over ice but thats still not as nice as Magners. I only started drinking Magners 2 weeks ago and really like it, plus its 4.5% which i find better as you can have a good few bottles without getting blasted too quick. The problem is if you have a night out on cider you cant go back to drinking lager and so you are stuck on cider as lager tastes foul after cider, you then find a pub that inevitably doesnt sell Magners so you end up with Woodpecker or god forbid Strongbow in your glass.

Oh boy a subject I know all about!

I work on the wines and spirits section at Tescos and if I had a quid for everytime someone asked me for magniers I would have packed up work by now! I've never known any drink take off like it in the 5 years i've been there.

Fact is with us we've had about 7 boxes (of 12 bottles) in 6 weeks  and my boss had 2 of them before they got put out!

wonder if it's a marketing thing...low supply in dribs and drabs trying to increase demand perhaps?
