Magners - where's it all gone

See, I don't buy the marketing argument. I've seen very little advertising for it all year, I only drink it now because Gilly bought me one last month and I liked it.

I started drinking it before the marketing or before I ever really noticed it. I just find it pretty refreshing and I like it, I've never tried any other ciders before as i'm not usually a big drinker.

But it's been over here for ages and some places have it on tap and if they don't have Magners then they have Bulmers.

Was in Asda today and they had a promotion on, 2 big bottles of Magners for £5 - after reading this thead, and never having tried it, i passed the promotion and thought about the cool refreshing taste and ended up buying a couple of bottles.

They had absolutely loads in, id say at least 300 bottles.

Magners is OK and nice enough but nothing special. No idea what all the hype is about, there are far better ciders out there. Aspall and Thatchers are by far nicer and cheaper too. Although i have to be careful as just one bottle of the 500ml stuff and I'm a bit squiffy!! :o

Been drinking it for at least a year through the rugby club where we can get it for £2.50 a bottle (not bad for London!), seems to have caught on massively this summer, not surprisingly as it's nice and served over ice so stays cold and nice.

Have only seen the adverts really since the World Cup started but seemed very popular before that as well so think it's more a word of mouth through the fact that it is nice rather than a massive advertising campaign.

That is because the bottles are usually at the front of a small fridge which constantly gets opened so they never have chance to chill properly disguising the taste of warm lager.

Yep. All of my mates are obsessed with it. It looks good, but when I taste it, it's awful. I blame my mate for making me drink 8 cans of scrumpy once when I was 16. I can never drink cider without immediately feeling ill from a single sip.

Idiot.

funniest thing i heard ever.

we give bottles from the back of the fridge and put lime in to stop the fizz. :)

Aspalls! Yes! Thank you - that's the one in the nice looking bottles. God that's been doing my nut trying to remember the name.

Had a bottle of their Dry Premier Cru last night which was lovely.

God I hate places that do that. You order a bottle of Sol or Corona and they stick a chunk of lime in the neck. WHY? Are we in Mexico or Spain? Do we have a major problem with flies landing on the necks of our half-drunk bottles?

It's such a pointless exercise in the UK. Always end up with an ashtray full of soggy chunks of lime.

its to stop the fizz, and we ask if you want it, and i dont push it down i push it so the lime is sticking out the top.

What the hell?
I thought the lime was just for a nice taste.
How does it stop fizz?
And why would you only do it with spanish lagers? Other bottled lager is sure to be fizzy :/
