Magners - where's it all gone

i remember cider becoming quite fasionable in london a while back and since then all pubs seem to have is magners, which is a shame, it's good but not a rival for katy (7.4% loopy cider), black rat or the god like drink that is stowford!

that said, it's taken off amazingly, perhaps because it's bottled and thereforev easy to get pubs to stock (??), but certainly, cider is fasionable right now in london at least.

Just wondered peoples thoughts on the way this has taken off , not whether it is a nice drink or not but the explosion in sales of it , ads have only recently been on TV etc but I have never seen a product take off so quickly

Around here it is now selling so fast that it is hard to get hold of , went out last night and everywhere had sold out , supermarket today was just an empty shelf , is this the same everywhere ?

oh and can you all stop drinking it please so that I can have some :D
I work behind a bar (and we don't stock it, though it would surely sell better than the Strongbow we do sell) and a customer was saying, when he was drinking in London thats all he would drink and that was 4 years ago!

It's now outselling every other drink apparently.

On a side note Strongbow Sirrus is a bit nicer (though not as refreshing) and is only £1.20 in my local :D

Well JD mings hard, so the other one :p

You get used to it. Nothing like a pint of vokda and irn bru half finished when your mates uncle tops it up to 3/4 full with some scotch whiskey. I was in the toilet within 0.000158 seconds of finishing it i tell you that!

Don't the other bottles get in the way since the shelves on those fridges are usually only about as tall as a bottle anyway?

and it doesn't have the <snip> chemical (Woodpeckers) taste of other ciders.

Chemical taste?! Pah, rubbish.

Mind you, you're weird when it comes to food and drink so I wouldn't expect anything different :p

is kopperberg the pear cider cus thats well nice

Yeah you can also get it in apple or mixed fruit. I think you can only buy it from Wetherspoons or Ikea (its Swedish), if you go to Ikea its really cheap for a crate :D

In my view, the success of Magners is a result of the combination of the marketing campaign they have run over the past couple of years and the fact that they seemed to have managed to get distribution deals with every single pub in the country.

The marketing campaign is clever and appeals to all of our senses; the smell of an orchard, the sound of clinking glasses and a fizzy liquid over ice etc. but it is a shame that whoever the parent company is couldn't do the same with an English cider. However, the good news is that we are seeing a general increase across the cider industry and ciders such as Gaymers are coming back, which has been made since 1770.

Brothers cider is the stuff we sell at most of the festivals the pear ones quite nice and usually sells out pretty quickly

you must be imaging a different fridge in our fridges we have about 3 in the small bar, and theres normally a gap in the middle, to put fresh fruits etc, we can put our hand down the middle and grab from the back ;)

Ah, our fridges are naff and you can only just squeeze a tall bottle in. Besides, we couldn't be arsed to reach to the back; we just take their £2.50 and give them a warm one. :D
