Magners - where's it all gone

The rugby club I work at had a Harley Davison weekend a few weeks ago.

We bought 20 boxes of Magners and Ice on the Friday and sold out by Sat morning.

Kept getting complaints that we should have ordered more stock but how the hell did we know that a drink that we had only just stocked would take off so well.

I've not tried it, this crap island has never heard of communication. I wanna try it this thread has made me jelous :( God i hate blackthorn. It has to be the worst drink, EVER.

I reckon Woodpecker rivals Blackthorn. Don't like either of 'em.

Strongbow is the nicest of the main ones IMO.

Agreed. You know what i found... Typical night out, heavy boozing on blackthorn OR strongbow, and you more than likely wake up with the biggest hangover, ever, or a stomping headche. One night i decided just to drink this french stuff, Val De Rance, or something, i forgot the name lol. And i woke up the next day feeling fresh as a daisy. It must be all the crap chemicals in those english ciders. Has magners got any crap in it like sulphates? (whatever the hell they are!)

Correct, Strongbow and Woodpecker etc are full of carp that gives you a bad head the next day. Aspalls, Kopparberg or any other vintage style cider will give you a suprising taste that wont rot your head or your stomach. I was out with a group of mates, I was drinking Kopparberg. They all grimaced when I explained it was cider but after each had a taste every one of them got up to the bar and ordered themseleves one :D

we give bottles from the back of the fridge and put lime in to stop the fizz. :)

And the lime doesn't stop the fizz I can assure yee.

From what I understand.

Bulmers Cider is the same as Magners Cider - just different names in different places....... and Magners has been around a good few years as far as i can remember.

Quote :

"Magners was launched in 1999 as C&C's overseas version of its Bulmers brand. The Bulmers name outside Ireland belongs to Scottish & Newcastle after it acquired the UK market-leading Herefordshire cider maker HP Bulmer three years ago.

S&N will relaunch Bulmers Original this month. The brand was first sold in Britain in 1982 but was ditched except in Northern Ireland. The drink will be sold in a pint bottle with a label strikingly similar to those of C&C's Magners and Bulmers brands. In a press release, S&N said: "Bulmers Original will be positioned as a product best served over ice and aimed to attract an eclectic mix of new drinkers - both male and female - who value a heritage-based product."

yeh it keeos sellign out in certain places around bristol a swell.

I think its a mix of

Advertising (word of mouth then a campaign blitz), then the heat wave and the fact it's served with ice. It alos tastes great and ciders a growing market unlike real ales which are shrinking.

Yeah we do both Magners and Bulmers (wondered why some people were saying they were the same thing!) and Gaymers and they all packaged looking for the trendy young market these days. Strongbow Sirrus is another one.

Seems some cider makers have decided to try shed the image cider has (of either country bumpkin stuff (scrumpy etc) or tramp, chav **** head stuff in 12 litre bottles (white lightning etc) and go for where the money is in the younger drinker. Certainly seems to have been working for magners!

Incidentally we've had 6 boxes come in stock in the last 2 days so maybe some is starting to get through! (sold them all now though!)

i like lime in corona , but the places i get it ask you if you want it, and also put it in the top of the bottle so you can still remove it if you want

might have a potter about and try and locate some magners

But feel free to show me different....

I think that Irish Bulmers is the same as UK Magners but UK Bulmers is a different product

But the brand that is taking off in the UK only now is the Irish version of Bulmers (Magners)

quote

Half way down the article, you can see its beginning to take over mainland UK (as its been available in N.Ireland for many years)

Well at tescos we do Magners (the Irish Bulmers) but we deffo do something called Bulmers as well and it aint Magners under a different name lol. I'll try and find a bulmers picture.

Bizzare 2 different companies use the same name for a different product in different countries though.

edit: this is the Bulmers we do
