Magni 3

He's referring to them not producing enough units and running out of stock so quickly, as being very poor. Nothing about his post indicates to me that he is saying the Magni 3 for £110, is poor.
Maybe I'm being a touch harsh but nothing about their setup strikes me as poor.

I agree, it isn't. I think it's just someone who is frustrated with not enough units being produced to meet the demand without realising the company's size, and how many units they can produce. Of course; if someone upon learning that Schiit is a small company still expects them to meet the supply demand; well that's different.

I understand Schiit is small and there products in high demand but i just find it hard to believe that they know there products are in high demand but sell out just after 3 days and not done more before putting them back in stock so they wouldn't run out in such short time. How long can that go on for before people look for alternatives

Indefinitely, if the product is good enough - and it invariably is

The problem they have is that they have such a loyal and almost rabid following that as soon as a product is launched, a ridiculous percentage of existing owners just HAVE TO HAVE it ASAP. Now obviously if they doubled the size of their factory they would be able to cope a lot easier but they would then have to lay people off between releases.

Jason is happy with the size of the company as it is and has no wish to expand any further and he also refuses to have anything other than the wall warts assembled in the far east, it's all done in house. So with those values, you have one choice, wait for availability or move along and buy something else.

They also can't start building them earlier in order to build up a larger stock as they would go out of business if a release was a failure, unlikely as that may sound. It does happen though, the Asgard had awful problems to start with and was even killing headphones - so they had to stop selling them and recall all those that had gone out.

Music? Yes, gaming, no.

I use mine for gaming, as well as music, and it's great. Obviously it can only output stereo, but I don't have issues with positional audio cues in game, they still come across loud and clear. I haven't noticed any real difference in gaming audio between my Schiit stack, onboard (Asus Maxmius VIII Hero Alpha) and an Asus Essence STX II. The latter of which I sent back, due to a rare bug, and replaced it with my Schiit stack. All of which I tested with a pair of Sennheiser HD 598s. If you're accustomed to a surround sound headset then it would be a different matter.

Oh I have got a very nice DAC/AMP myself, Marantz HD-DAC, which I was using for gaming, but realised after a while that whilst games sounded excellent, I was still missing surround audio processing features so ended up buying a Sennheiser USB gaming headset as well. It is a better experience, for me anyway, than my music setup.

These arrived yesterday :) Waiting on custom RCAs to connect them so only running Magni 3 at the moment.

Nice! Pro tip... Place the amp on top of the DAC so it can dissipate heat easily and not fry your DAC :D

Was thinking that anyway but only put the DAC ontop for the picture, it's back in its box until RCAs arrive :)

JBL LSR305s to be added next week, then I'll wall mount the case so I've space on the desk.

Let us know your thoughts. I'm considering one of the following, still undecided:

Presonus Eris E4.5
M-Audio BX5-D3
Mackie MR524
Mackie CR4

The JBL LSR305s get a lot of positive reviews but what puts me off them is the comments of a constant buzz / hum - I'd be interested to know if you hear this. Saying this I've read comments that most / all active powered speakers can buzz / hum. Even when ground loops are solved, the speakers aren't cranked up to max volume etc.

I should have them next week, it's either them or 2x4TB HDDs that takes next weeks allocated spending lol

I couldn't resist any longer, I ordered a Magni 3 to go with my Modi Multibit and that's me done on audio spending until after Christmas :D

Is the Magni 3 the one to go for over the Vali 2? As the Vali 2 is £55 more. I'm after an upgrade to my Vali 1 for Christmas this year.

DPD chappie just delivered my Magni 3 and after a bit of a panic (I accidentally switched sources on the Mimby) all is running well.

The Mimby & Magni 3 pairing is vastly superior to the Modi (1) and Magni 2 duo I was running before. The Mimby adds a lot more space around individual instruments, making them far easier to pick out; it also creates a bigger and more 3D sound stage, cleans up and strengthens the bass and smooths the highs while increasing the detail retrieval quite significantly. The difference between the Magni 2 and 3 is more subtle but the sound stage is wider and the sound quality is smoother and cleaner, making the strengths of the Mimby even more apparent.

The only negative I have is that the source button fits too tightly in the hole on the Mimby, so if I apply pressure to the top of the unit it changes sources - solution: don't apply pressure to the top of the unit.

Now to let it burn in for 500 hours (j/k) :D

ps. On initial listening the Magni 3 sounded very harsh in the high mids to highs - this was due to the unit being extremely cold when it was delivered. As it warmed up it got smoother and smoother.
